Job Title : Software Development Engineer
Location : In San Francisco Office or REMOTE
Pay : $80-99/hr.

The Software Developer I is an early-career software engineer responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and supporting application features across modern distributed systems. Working within an Agile team, this role contributes to both new feature development and enhancements to existing products.

Developers at this level are building independence, taking ownership of small to medium-sized work items, and strengthening core engineering fundamentals across application layers (user experience, services, APIs, and data). They leverage modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development tools, to improve productivity, learning, and code quality while ensuring outputs meet team standards.

This role is a key progression point from Associate Software Developer and prepares individuals for Software Developer II by increasing ownership, problem-solving capability, and technical depth.

• Collaborate to understand requirements, clarify scope, and contribute to solution approaches.

• Receive guidance on design, implementation, and engineering best practices.

• Work collaboratively across shared codebases and feature delivery.

• Partner to ensure solutions are testable, deployable, usable, and reliable.

Essential Functions and Key Position Accountabilities
Software Development
• Design, build, and maintain application features across system layers (UI, services, APIs, and data).
• Deliver small to medium-sized features with increasing independence.
• Contribute to enhancements, bug fixes, and system improvements.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code aligned with team standards.
AI-Assisted Engineering
• Use AI-assisted development tools to:
o Accelerate implementation and reduce repetitive work
o Generate test cases, documentation, and scaffolding
o Explore alternative solutions and approaches
• Validate AI-generated outputs for correctness, security, and maintainability.
Quality & Testing
• Develop and maintain unit and integration tests.
• Participate in code reviews and apply feedback.
• Support debugging and root cause analysis of issues.
Collaboration & Delivery
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, refinement, retrospectives).
• Break down assigned work into actionable tasks.
• Communicate progress, risks, and blockers proactively.
Documentation
• Document technical changes, design decisions, and feature behavior.
• Contribute to team knowledge sharing and documentation practices.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge
• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 1-3 years of experience in software development or related experience.
• Foundational understanding of:
o Software development principles (object-oriented design, modular design, etc.)
o Application architecture concepts (client/server, APIs, data flow)
o Version control and collaborative development practices
AI-Assisted Development
• Exposure to or willingness to adopt AI-assisted coding tools.
• Ability to critically evaluate generated code and outputs.
