Assistant Director of Finance

We are seeking an experienced and analytical Assistant Director of Finance to support the financial operations of a luxury hotel in Fort Worth, Texas. This position is ideal for a hands-on hotel finance professional who understands the complexities of a decentralized accounting environment and can effectively partner with department leaders across the property. The Assistant Director of Finance will support the Director of Finance in overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, audit compliance, and financial analysis. The successful candidate will be a strategic business partner who can translate financial data into actionable insights while maintaining strong accounting controls and ensuring the property operates with financial discipline and integrity. Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Accounting Operations Assist the Director of Finance in overseeing all day-to-day financial and accounting operations for the hotel. Support financial reporting across Rooms, Food & Beverage, Spa, Banquets, Engineering, Sales, and other operating departments. Work effectively within a decentralized accounting structure , partnering with department leaders to ensure accurate financial management at the operational level. Review daily revenue, cash, credit card, and accounts receivable activity. Oversee the accuracy and integrity of general ledger accounts and financial transactions. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and month-end closing activities. Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial reporting. Budgeting & Forecasting Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets and capital expenditure plans. Support monthly forecasting and reforecasting processes. Analyze actual results against budget and forecast, identifying trends and significant variances. Partner with department heads to develop corrective action plans and improve financial performance. Provide meaningful financial analysis and recommendations to leadership. Operational Finance Partnership Serve as a financial business partner to hotel department heads and operational leadership. Educate leaders on financial results, labor management, departmental expenses, and profitability. Help department leaders understand their financial responsibility within a decentralized operating model. Provide financial guidance on purchasing, staffing, inventory, and expense management. Participate in operational meetings and provide financial insights that support business decisions. Internal Controls & Compliance Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Monitor cash handling, credit card processing, purchasing, receiving, and inventory procedures. Assist with internal and external audits. Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and financial controls throughout the property. Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate exposure. Accounts Payable, Receivable & Payroll Oversee or support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with collection efforts. Review payroll reports and labor expenses for accuracy and compliance. Partner with Human Resources and department leaders to ensure payroll processes are accurate and timely. Review invoices, purchase orders, receiving documentation, and vendor statements. Review daily revenue reports and financial activity across all hotel departments. Analyze Rooms, Food & Beverage, Banquets, Spa, and other revenue-producing operations. Monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities to improve profitability. Partner with Revenue Management and Sales leadership to understand business trends and financial impacts. Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested. Assist in leading, coaching, and developing the Finance team. Establish clear expectations and promote accuracy, accountability, and professionalism. Support cross-training and development of Finance team members. Foster strong relationships between Finance and operational departments. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum 4–6 years of progressive accounting or finance experience within a hotel or hospitality environment. Previous experience as an Assistant Director of Finance, Assistant Controller, Hotel Controller, or senior hotel accounting leader preferred. Strong understanding of hotel accounting and financial reporting. Experience working within a decentralized financial environment where department leaders have direct responsibility for their operating results. Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal controls. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and hotel accounting or financial systems. Preferred Luxury hotel or resort experience strongly preferred. Experience with a full-service hotel with multiple food and beverage outlets and significant banquet operations. Experience with hotel systems such as Opera, Infor, BirchStreet, Sage, Oracle, or similar platforms. Experience supporting a hotel opening, renovation, or major operational transition is a plus. CPA, CMA, or other professional accounting certification is preferred but not required. Experience with decentralized or corporate accounting structures strongly preferred.
