Washington County Community Corrections is now hiring a highly collaborative and supportive individual to join our team as a Probation and Parole Officer (PPO). An essential function of this role will be supporting a caseload of people from various backgrounds.
Washington County Community Corrections serves an important role in keeping our community safe. This department works to prevent the recurrence of crime among adult Justice Involved Individuals (JIIs) by holding them accountable to the conditions of their supervision while supporting their efforts to live successfully in the community.

- Assess personal needs of adult JIIs and determine treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and complete casework records.
- Learn and use self-defense tactics including the use of protective devices issued by the department.
- Actively participate in annual training and demonstrations on proper field security, physical defense, and arrest tactics and practices.
- Learn to handle, disarm, and control weapons in a safe and proper manner.
- Meet a variety of physical exertion requirements in the use of equipment and in the control and manipulation of resisting JIIs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing with individuals of varying backgrounds, including JIIs, court and law enforcement personnel, and the general public.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals, including co-workers and supervisors.

Bilingual Positions: Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of another language besides English. It is required to possess precise writing skills (including spelling, grammar, and punctuation), fluent speaking skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Upon successfully passing the applicable proficiency assessment test in a selected language, employees will receive bilingual pay in the amount of five percent (5%) of their base pay rate, exclusive of any other incentive pay, or a flat rate of seventy-five dollars ($75) per pay period, whichever is greater.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Probation and Parole Officer I: Bachelor's degree in any concentration, AND Three (3) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience. OR Associate's degree in any concentration, AND Four (4) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field. Possession of an Associate's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience. OR High School Diploma or equivalent, AND Five (5) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.
- Probation and Parole Officer II: Bachelor's degree in any concentration, AND Three (3) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; OR Associate's degree in any concentration, AND Four (4) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; OR High School Diploma or equivalent, AND Five (5) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
- Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.
- Must acquire and maintain CPR and first aid certification.
- Must meet all certification requirements as a Probation and Parole Officer by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) within 18 months of hire (for Probation and Parole Officer I).
- Must be certified as a Probation and Parole Officer by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) upon hire (For Probation and Parole Officer II).
- Must be a US citizen, or become a US citizen within 18 months of hire.
- Must be able pass bilingual English-Spanish testing for written and oral proficiency.
