This role focuses on performing high-quality MIG welding and related fabrication work on steel components using GMAW, FCAW, or SMAW processes. You will work from procedures, layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, and verbal instructions to produce welds ranging from simple tacks to complex assemblies in various positions. The position plays a key role in fabricating chassis in the weld-out area just before components move to sandblasting and subsequent wiring and plumbing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding duties using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), and SMAW (Stick Welding) on steel components.
  • Produce welds ranging from simple tacks to complex welds in multiple positions, with an emphasis on flat butt welds and vertical up welds.
  • Work in pairs to fabricate chassis in the weld-out area prior to sandblasting and subsequent wiring and plumbing stages.
  • Set up workstations and lay out work using fixtures and guides to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and equipment products.
  • Interpret and follow job order specifications, blueprints, work instructions, diagrams, layouts, and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
  • Operate and use related equipment and tools including forklifts, hoists, slings, portable and bench grinders, cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, tape measures, and Air Arc equipment.
  • Keep welding and related equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements and following manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, call for repairs when needed, and complete daily equipment check sheets accurately.
  • Handle and move materials and components safely, including lifting items up to 70 pounds as required for production.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with workplace safety standards and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members, including welding partners and other production staff, to meet quality, safety, and production targets.
  • Adapt to varying workloads and schedules, including overtime when required to support production demands.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of welding experience or completion of a recent LMC Weld Program.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding, with the ability to perform GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) on steel components.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, diagrams, layouts, work orders, and written work instructions.
  • Basic fabrication skills, including layout work using fixtures and guides to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and products.
  • Capability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 70 pounds safely and repeatedly.
  • Ability to operate common shop tools and equipment such as grinders (portable and bench), cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, and tape measures.
  • Willingness and ability to follow preventive maintenance procedures, complete daily equipment checks, and troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality welds in both flat and vertical up positions.
  • Reliability in adhering to assigned shift hours and overtime requirements as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AWS certification is a plus and may enhance consideration for the role.
  • Knowledge of blueprint symbols and weld symbols is preferred, though not required.
  • Experience in vocational school, industrial trades, weld classes, or welding technology programs is beneficial.
  • Experience working with FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) and SMAW (Stick Welding) processes is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with using forklifts, hoists, and slings to move materials and components safely.
  • Comfort working in a production or industrial fabrication environment with time-sensitive output requirements.

Why Work Here?

You will join a production environment that values hands-on skill development and offers the opportunity to work with a variety of welding processes and fabrication tools.
