Temporary Lifeguard

Responsibilities Safeguard the public by performing lifeguard services on an assigned beach area, including rescues, first aid, and manual and mechanical resuscitation. Advise and enforce regulations concerning swimming areas and beach facilities. Make periodic patrols of beach areas, warning bathers of unsafe conditions, post appropriate warning flags and informational signs, and operate the patrol boat. Maintain lifeguard station and equipment in neat and orderly condition; perform other park maintenance work as necessary. Qualifications Knowledge of lifesaving techniques, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, water safety, and use and care of lifesaving equipment. Ability To Perform swimming rescues in various water conditions and tread water for extended periods. Respond effectively and maturely in emergency and stressful situations. Evaluate swimming conditions relative to public safety. Deal tactfully and effectively with individuals and groups. Sit and stand for long periods in adverse weather conditions, particularly heat and wind. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. License/Certificate Possession of a valid California Driver License may be required for some positions. Additional License/Certificates Lifeguarding with First Aid issued by the American Red Cross (ARC). CPR for the Professional Rescuer (ARC) or the American Heart Association CPR equivalent (annual certification required).
