Payroll Administrator

Summary National Jewish Health is seeking a Payroll Administrator to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for employees across the organization. This role is responsible for payroll data accuracy and consistency, administering payroll taxes and deductions, and serving as a trusted resource for employee payroll inquiries. In This Role, The Payroll Administrator Will Process full-cycle semi-monthly payroll while ensuring accurate deductions for benefits, taxes, garnishments, and retirement contributions. Review and validate timekeeping records to ensure accurate reporting and policy compliance. Calculate, reconcile, and remit payroll taxes while supporting quarterly and year‑end reporting, including W‑2 preparation. Provide responsive support to employees regarding pay, tax withholding, and payroll processes. Develop payroll reports and partner with Human Resources, Finance, and Budget teams to support reconciliation and compliance activities. Prior experience in an academic, research, or grant‑funded environment is preferred. Essential Duties Process the full‑cycle semi‑monthly payroll for all employees. Ensure accurate deductions for benefits, garnishments, taxes, and retirement contributions. Process final pay, off‑cycle payrolls, and special payments as required. Review and validate timekeeping records, ensuring accurate time reporting and policy compliance. Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, taxes, and direct deposit. Provide payroll documentation (employee pay statements) and educate employees on payroll processes and timeliness. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws and maintain advanced knowledge of payroll regulations. Direct and implement required legal or policy changes. Calculate, reconcile, remit, and record payroll taxes on a pay‑period, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Prepare and process year‑end payroll reporting, including W‑2s and related tax filings. Maintain oversight and compliance of foreign national employees, including taxation and tax treaty interpretation. Process and monitor retroactive labor distributions to ensure payroll costs are accurately allocated to appropriate funding sources, including sponsored projects, in support of institutional and grant reporting requirements. Develop and test payroll system enhancements, upgrades, and new functionality. Configure and maintain payroll system elements, including pay types, deductions, and pay periods. Create and generate payroll reports, data‑tracking tools, and analytical solutions to support business needs. Provide payroll reporting and generate supporting information for accounting staff to assist with payroll account reconciliation and the investigation of discrepancies. Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Budget, and other teams while providing responsive payroll support and maintaining strict confidentiality. Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience processing payroll is required. Experience in processing multi‑state payroll is preferred. Experience in an academic medical center preferred. Special Training, Certification, or Licensure: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred. Experience in PeopleSoft and UKG software is strongly preferred. Experience with multi‑state tax regulations and Foreign National Tax Treaties preferred. Salary Range $67,454.40 – $89,208.44 Benefits Comprehensive Medical Coverage: Multiple Cigna health plans for Colorado, regional office and remote employees.
