Program Supervisor

Role Summary This is administrative and fieldwork assisting in coordinating operations and supervision of the Nutrition Program for the Elderly or any other similarly related program. Work is performed under the direction of the Departmental Nutritionist or a higher-level supervisor. The supervisor allows considerable latitude in defining work assignments; however, work is reviewed through consultation with the Departmental Nutritionist, the director of the program or a high-level official. DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE) Assists Departmental Nutritionist with the supervision, training, and evaluation of nutrition workers. Assists with staff training. Assists with planning and implementation of nutritional activities. Assists the Departmental Nutritionist with the preparation of component work plan and submit to the Nutritionist for approval. Assists Nutritionist in gathering and compiling information to be used for program planning and evaluation. Assists with the supervision of food storage and distribution of food for emergency food packages. Submits requests for maintenance and repairs within the nutrition component to Nutritionist. Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, or annual report and updates statistics and meal census. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Monitoring Responsibilities Monitors food preparation sites and congregate centers to ensure that: Menus are being followed Appropriate portions are being prepared and served and nutrition records are current Adequate equipment, appliances and utensils are maintained in sanitary condition All food supplies are handled and stored in compliance with local and federal guidelines. Appropriate permits, license certificates, and food handlers certificates are posted Education and Experience Completion of a B.S. or B.A. degree in Food Nutrition, Home Economics, Food Service Management, Health Education, Business Management, supplemented with one (1) year supervisory experience; OR: AA degree in any of the above fields, plus three (3) years related work experience, one of which must be in a supervisory capacity; OR: High School Diploma or its equivalent and five (5) years experience working in food service, nutrition, a similar function, or with the elderly, one of which must involve supervisory experience. FACTOR I – KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of food sanitation. Basic knowledge of nutrition Basic knowledge of institutional food service supervision. Ability to assess potential clients. Ability to deal with the elderly in a tactful, patient and caring manner. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all contacted in the course of work. FACTOR II – SUPERVISORY CONTROLS Work is performed under the direction of the Departmental Nutritionist. The work is reviewed through consultations with the Departmental Nutritionist. The Supervisor allows considerable latitude in defining work assignments that include a wide range of duties. Work is reviewed for conformance to established standards, policies, and procedures. FACTOR III – GUIDELINES Specific rules, regulations and procedures are established for completing various activities. The work is reviewed through consultations with the Departmental Nutritionist. FACTOR IV – COMPLEXITY The employee performs a wide range of duties requiring considerable knowledge of sanitation and nutrition policies, methods, and procedures within the general area of responsibility. FACTOR V – SCOPE AND EFFECT The purpose of the work is to supervise community nutrition aides to ensure efficient and smooth operation of the nutrition program for the elderly and to comply with regulatory and sanitation standards. FACTOR VI – PERSONAL CONTACTS Contacts are with staff, supervisors, other persons within the agency, the general public, and especially with elderly persons. FACTOR VII – PURPOSE OF CONTACTS Contacts are to assist with delivery of services to meet the nutritional needs of elderly persons. FACTOR VIII – PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is sedentary. Outreach activities are required, including canvassing at senior centers, independent living centers, and other elderly housing facilities. FACTOR IX – WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in an air conditioned office and in the field. #J-18808-Ljbffr
