COTA Inpatient Swing Bed - Caro

Position Summary As a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA), you will work in an inpatient setting to consult with, evaluate, and treat patients of various ages and diagnoses. You will be expected to first and foremost provide effective individualized patient care. This includes recognizing the value of trust and rapport in the patient‑clinician relationship to motivate and encourage patients to do their best throughout each course of care. A successful COTA at Renue would demonstrate patient‑centered care through communication, teamwork and compassion, integrity, character and honesty while being motivated and enthusiastic about maintaining an open friendly environment for patients and team members. Essential Functions and Responsibilities This list is not inclusive; other duties may be assigned such as key projects assigned by your manager. Provide continued treatment for current swing bed patients. Use WebPT EMR and a small amount in Healthland for documentation. Consult with patients to learn about their condition; assess and interpret patient evaluations and test results; develop treatment plans using a variety of techniques based on age, cultural and rehabilitative needs. Develop rapport and trust with patients to encourage and motivate them during therapy. Exercise independent judgement based on experience to provide individualized effective patient care; communicate and coordinate with physicians and other health‑care team members to ensure a consistent level of care; assist patients in exercises to minimize injury and promote fitness; monitor progress; modify exercises as needed. Teach, supervise and counsel patients and families regarding recovery process, anticipated challenges, home exercises, injury prevention, ergonomics, and other care needs; utilize appropriate educational material. Adhere to applicable company policies, federal and Michigan state regulations. Provide thorough, timely, professional and consistent patient care documentation through EMR (evaluations, re‑evaluations, progress notes, daily notes, D/C summaries) per company policies; documentation should have minimal to no grammatical errors and clearly indicate medical necessity and clinical progression. Forward speech‑language pathology (SLP) notifications to appropriate team members. Maintain current occupational therapy license and complete continuing education requirements. Assist administrative staff with billing and reporting inquiries. Communicate positively, appropriately and timely with patients, co‑workers, supervisors, attending physicians, nursing and ancillary support staff. Qualifications Required: Licensed Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant in Michigan and current CPR certification. Preferred: A professional with passion to deliver great patient care and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Language Skills Communicate clearly and distinctly when answering phones. Communicate with people of diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds. Read and interpret professional level documents written using advanced medical terminology in English. Produce clear and concise reports and correspondence at a professional level. Fluent in Standard English. Present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
