Social Media Coordinator
COALITION TO ABOLISH SLAVERY AND TRAFFICKING
Social Media CoordinatorCast is seeking a Social Media Coordinator who will help reimagine Cast's social media presence as an important tool for reaching survivors and influencing the way that human trafficking is understood, discussed, and portrayed. This is a strategic role. The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for developing and executing campaigns, creating and publishing content across multiple platforms (currently Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube), and tracking and reporting on engagement with survivors, partners, and the public. The Social Media Coordinator will work closely with colleagues across programs, policy, and communications to ensure content reflects Cast's work accurately and amplifies the organization's broader goals. The role serves two equally important goals: reaching survivors directly, especially youth who are being trafficked or who have experienced trafficking, with trusted information, accessible resources, and messaging that affirms their dignity and autonomy; and advancing narratives on human trafficking that shift discourse away from criminalization and toward trauma-informed, survivor-led approaches. This role requires someone who understands that social media, for many young people, is often the primary way they access information and seek help. A successful candidate will combine content creativity with strategic discipline and will hold survivor safety and dignity as non-negotiable principles in everything they produce.Essential DutiesStrategy, Metrics, and ReportingSocial media strategy is about having a clear view of who we are trying to reach, what we want them to know, and what success looks like. The Social Media Coordinator will develop plans in collaboration with the Director of Development and Communications, program leaders, and other relevant stakeholders, and will lead time-based campaigns as needed. Understanding who we are reaching, and what they are understanding, is central to this work. Are we reaching youth? Practitioners? Are our messages landing? Are survivors connecting with services? The Coordinator will develop metrics that answer these questions and translate findings into recommendations that strengthen programs, funding applications, and policy conversations.Develop and own Cast's social media strategy, with platform-specific approaches for LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, and bring forward recommendations for expanding to additional platforms where youth and survivors are most active.Lead the planning and execution of targeted social campaigns, using demographic and search-term targeting to reach individuals who may be survivors or at risk of trafficking.Establish a metrics framework for each platform that tracks reach, engagement, follower growth, and, where measurable, referrals to Cast services.Produce regular social media performance reports, synthesizing data into clear insights and actionable recommendations for leadership.Content Production and Channel ManagementThis role offers the opportunity to create, imagine, and tell stories that move people to action. In addition to curiosity, empathy, and creativity, it requires a genuine desire for organization, reflection, and advance planning.Produce content across formats, including graphics, short-form video (Reels), long-form video (YouTube), carousels, stories, and posts, coordinating with external vendors, photographers, and videographers as needed.Partner with Cast's Youth Program to keep youth-facing content current and accurate: how to access services, recognize signs of trafficking or exploitation, and get help, ensuring messaging reflects real-time program capacity and safety guidance.Manage an editorial calendar that balances proactive campaign content, reactive news moments, and evergreen survivor resource content.Maintain brand voice and visual consistency that reflects Cast's values: warm, direct, credible, and survivor-centered.Develop and maintain a community engagement policy governing how Cast responds to comments, DMs, and mentions across platforms, including protocols for sensitive topics, survivor disclosures, and misinformation, and identifying predatory engagement targeting youth; regularly brief the Youth Program Lead on relevant trends, questions, and safety concerns surfaced through comments and DMs.Outreach and Narrative ChangeA key aspect of this role is starting, maintaining, and growing engagement with survivors of human trafficking, particularly youth. This includes mapping the youth services landscape in LA County, connecting with peer communicators at other organizations, and developing and testing messages in collaboration with survivors and program staff to ensure content is inviting, affirming, and reflects Cast's services accurately. Cast's social media presence is also an important part of its narrative change agenda, including spotlighting the vulnerabilities that lead to trafficking, highlighting opportunities for systems improvement, and redirecting dominant headlines from rescue to well-being and healing. This work is done in partnership with policy and research colleagues.Design and implement social media strategies to reach survivors, particularly youth who are being trafficked or who have experienced trafficking, with content that is affirming, culturally resonant, and connects them to Cast's services, including hotlines, legal support, and case management.Build relationships with survivor-led organizations, peer communicators, and community influencers to expand organic reach and ensure content reflects the lived experience of the communities Cast serves.Integrate Cast's public health framing across all social channels, translating policy and research into accessible content, countering criminalization narratives, and redirecting public discourse from rescue toward well-being and healing.Amplify Cast's advocacy work, including campaigns tied to the LA28 Olympics, FIFA World Cup, and other major civic moments; monitor misinformation and harmful narratives online and develop rapid-response content strategies in coordination with leadership. In partnership with the Youth Program, develop and deliver periodic staff trainings on how technology and social media are used to groom, recruit, and exploit youth and, conversely, how these platforms can be used safely and effectively for service outreach.RequirementsRequired2+ years of experience in social media strategy and content creation in a nonprofit, social justice, public health, or adjacent context, with a portfolio demonstrating original, mission-driven work.Strong writing skills: the ability to adapt voice and register across platforms and audiences.Comfort with social media analytics tools and the ability to translate data into actionable strategy and reporting.Familiarity with trauma-informed communication practices and survivor-centered storytelling ethics.Proficiency with social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later), Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, and basic video editing tools.PreferredExperience managing paid social campaigns, including audience targeting, A/B testing, and budget management.Experience developing content specifically designed to reach youth audiences, especially youth in crisis or unsafe situations.Multilingual skills, particularly Spanish, a Southeast Asian language, or other languages spoken by communities Cast serves.Lived experience with the criminal legal system, immigration system, or other systems Cast's clients navigate; or direct experience working with human trafficking survivors.Work EnvironmentHybrid work environment based in Los Angeles.Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required for time-sensitive campaigns or events.Cast is an Equal Opportunity EmployerCoalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (Cast) is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
