Part-time Police OfficerReports to: Chief of PoliceDept./School: As AssignedWage/Hour Status: Nonexempt / Minimal four shifts per monthPrimary Purpose:Patrols district property to protect all students, personnel and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism. Enforces all laws including municipal ordinances, county ordinances and state laws. Works independently.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High School diploma or GEDTexas Peace Officer license issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE)Valid Texas driver's licensePolice Bike Certification preferredTCLEOSE (F5 Honorable Discharge)Special Knowledge/Skills:General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal lawsTraining and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffsBondable as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h)Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric and drug testsAbility to work well with youth and adultsAbility to furnish own police equipment (except uniforms)Ability to pass alcohol/drug test, psychological and physical examinationHave a clear criminal record background as verified by the State of TexasAcceptable driving record as verified by the Texas Department of Public Safety annuallyAbility to work at varied hours of day and night, including weekends and holidaysPerform other duties as assignedEmergency on call 24 hoursExperience:One year (full-time) in law enforcement preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:General:Demonstrates thoroughness, reliability and a high degree of accuracy in performing work assignments.Works cooperatively with others and maintains a positive attitude in the work environment.Demonstrates initiative and good judgment in problem solving and decision-making.Reports promptly and maintains good attendance.Uses time productively on the job.Follows district policies, rules and regulations.Accepts supervisory direction.Strives to improve job skills.Demonstrates tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors in the district.Law Enforcement:Patrol assigned campus(es) and routes walking or driving within district jurisdiction.Monitor vehicular and pedestrian traffic on all campuses and district facilities.Maintain orderly conduct on all school grounds and in the protection of school property.Use such force as authorized by law.Monitor parking areas and take action on those vehicles illegally parked.Respond to all calls from campuses concerning crisis situation, accidents, and reports of crime.Investigate all criminal offenses that occur within district's jurisdiction that involves the district's business or safety.Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations including witness statements and physical evidence.Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary.Write effective legal incident reports.Testify in court as needed.Consultation:Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.Serve as a liaison between administration and law enforcement agencies.Maintain direct contact with campus principals.Safety:Help provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time.Provide protection to or escort district personnel as needed.Operate all equipment including firearms according to established safety procedures.Administration:Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents required, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports and activity reports.Supervisory Responsibilities: NoneEquipment Used: District vehicle, police bicycle, firearm, handcuffs, alarm system, fire extinguisher, security equipment, personal computer, typewriter, and copier.Working Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Strenuous walking, standing, and climbing; ability to operate a motor vehicle; specific hearing and visual requirements; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations. Work outdoors in varying climate conditions; drive in different areas of district at odd hours; on call 24 hours a day.Note: Not all applicants will be interviewed.
