Safeguards Analyst / IAEA or Euratom Inspector

Role Overview

Help evaluate frontier AI systems on nuclear materials and safeguards questions, distinguishing legitimate technical requests from those with genuine misuse potential. This work requires the practical judgment to recognize when routine accountancy, inspection, or fuel-cycle questions cross into harmful territory.

Key Responsibilities

• Create challenging single-turn nuclear safeguards prompts categorized as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.
• Assess AI responses against an established policy standard and determine whether each response was handled correctly.
• Develop reference answers that show the appropriate response and explain the underlying technical reasoning.
• Provide clear written rationales for each judgment that non-specialists can understand.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience verifying nuclear material, including inspection regimes, material accountancy, and resolution of discrepancies.
• Ability to distinguish routine professional inquiries from requests that may be intended to conceal diversion or otherwise enable misuse.
• Relevant experience may include IAEA, Euratom, or state-system inspector work involving inspection planning, verification, and reporting; material accountancy involving facility declarations, inventory change reports, and MUF evaluation or resolution; Additional Protocol implementation; complementary access; information analysis; safeguards instrumentation; containment and surveillance; NDA measurement; seals; unattended monitoring; safeguards-by-design; or safeguards policy analysis at a laboratory, regulator, or ministry.
• Red-teaming experience is preferred.
• Strong technical writing ability. Published research, technical-writing experience, or expert-witness experience is valued. Include a writing sample or link with your application.

Work Terms

• Remote, per-task engagement.
• The work involves sustained reading and writing about misuse scenarios in nuclear safeguards. You will receive an advance briefing and may pause or step away at any time without penalty.

Compensation

65 to 75 per task.
