We have a new opportunity for an In-House Legal Counsel to join our team, working 37.5 hours per week.

We are seeking a commercially minded Solicitor to join our in-house legal team. This is a remote role, with a preference for candidates based in the South West of the UK. We welcome applications from candidates outside of this region, provided you are comfortable working independently and effectively in a remote environment.

This role will focus primarily on the drafting, negotiation and management of commercial contracts supporting our fuel supply operations and Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with commercial, operational, procurement and management teams, providing pragmatic legal advice and supporting a broad range of commercial matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to develop their in-house career within the energy, infrastructure and sustainability sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements, including: Fuel supply agreements Waste supply and feedstock contracts Service agreements Maintenance contracts Consultancy agreements Procurement and supplier contracts Framework agreements and terms and conditions
• Support commercial and procurement teams throughout contract negotiations.
• Identify and mitigate contractual, commercial and operational risks.
• Advise internal stakeholders on contractual obligations and dispute avoidance.
• Assist with contract lifecycle management and contract governance processes.
• Provide practical legal support on business projects and strategic initiatives.
• Support compliance activities and internal policy development.
• Liaise with external counsel where required.
• Assist the wider legal team on ad hoc commercial, regulatory and corporate matters.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential: Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (2-4 PQE would be ideal) Experience in private practice or in-house. Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. Excellent contract drafting and communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently. Pragmatic and commercially focused approach to legal advice. Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to engage directly with operational and commercial teams.

Desirable: Previous in-house legal experience. Experience in the energy, utilities, waste management, infrastructure, engineering or manufacturing sectors. Familiarity with fuel supply agreements, procurement contracts, logistics agreements or industrial services contracts. Experience advising on supplier and operational contracts in a regulated environment.

Personal Attributes: Commercially astute and solutions-oriented. Strong attention to detail. Proactive, practical and capable of working with limited supervision. Able to build relationships across all levels of the business. Team player with a positive and collaborative mindset. A valid UK driving licence is required for occasional site visits.
