Lactation Consultant - PRN

Department: Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center - Lactation Services Status: Part time Hours Per Week: 0 Schedule Details/Additional Information: PRN Birth Center and NICU Pay Range: $33.05 - $49.60 per hour Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited college/university with a Bachelor's degree in Administration, Nutrition, or Nursing. Prior experience in a neonatal intensive care or pediatric unit as an IBCLC preferred. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills preferred. Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current IBCLC certification or eligible to sit for the exam. If not currently certified, must apply to sit for the exam at the next scheduled application date. CPR certification required. Essential Functions Provides consultation in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to mothers of patients in the management of breastfeeding to promote optimal patient outcomes. Educates staff and complex breastfeeding management. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team in monitoring breastfeeding progress of mothers and modifying the plan of care to promote optimal outcomes. Maintains breastfeeding statistics for Brenner Children’s Hospital. Develops policies and procedures as needed for Lactation Consultant services, breastfeeding equipment and resources and participates in performance and quality improvement activities and outcomes projects. Skills and Qualifications Demonstrates ability to successfully counsel and assist mothers with breastfeeding skills; ability to develop educational programs for families and staff; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to maintain effective relationships with medical and nursing staff, employees and the public. Work Environment Possible exposure to infectious and contagious diseases. Subject to many interruptions and stressful conditions. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances.
