The ACNO has operational and functional responsibility for patient care areas and/or special projects or initiatives and develops the communication, leadership, and business skills necessary to advance to a CNO. Major Responsibilities Quality Assists CNO in formulating policies and procedures that align with recognized professional standards and regulatory intent. Performs regular rounds on patients, families, employees and physicians to enhance communication and ensure alignment. Ensures continuous performance improvement initiatives are designed to measure and improve the quality of care delivered and are consistent with organizational priorities. Ensures thorough follow‑up to patient complaints and occurrence reports, identifies system problems that may contribute to errors, and monitors corrective actions to ensure resolution. Service Promotes consistent, positive patient interactions that advance unparalleled patient service. Maintains a patient‑first philosophy and engages in service recovery when necessary. Supports development and implementation of strategies to elevate the patient experience. Participates in creating a professional practice environment that encourages recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Fosters a culture conducive to evidence‑based practice and clinical research. Serves as a role model for professional and ethical conduct and accountability. People Fosters independence and autonomy in all staff members. Provides leadership that increases engagement, creates ownership of goals, and encourages active participation in decisions impacting nursing practice. Assumes responsibility for continuing education and developmental needs for staff and acts as preceptor for nursing students when requested. Collaborates with nursing educators to promptly identify and address learning needs. Works collaboratively with other departments to foster open communication and mutual problem‑solving activities. Develops close working relationships with physician colleagues and other health‑care providers, collaborating to set goals and develop action plans for patient care or system improvements. Represents nursing services at meetings and collaborates with department leaders to design and provide patient care and services. Participates in professional organizations and community health organizations. Growth Assists in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue. Participates in planning activities related to design or implementation of renovated or new patient care areas, assuming primary responsibility for projects or task groups as assigned. Finance Assists the CNO in developing and managing the nursing services budget and determining a sufficient number of qualified staff to ensure high quality, patient‑centered care. Assists in managing costs by continually seeking data that identifies opportunities and taking action to eliminate non‑value costs. Other Performs other duties as assigned. Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.” Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required) Master’s Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field, or current enrollment in a Master’s program or equivalent (required) 5+ years of experience in a supervisory nursing role (required) 5+ years of direct leadership experience in a hospital or patient care environment (required) Licensure, Certifications, Training Current license as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or an active compact license (required) Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors Builds trust and acts with authenticity to cultivate a culture of dignity and respect.
