Job Title: Pharmacist Job Description

The Pharmacist plays a key role in achieving the pharmacy’s management goals and objectives within a busy dispensing environment. This position provides routine and emergency comprehensive drug screening, information processing, and dispensing services across various drug distribution systems, ensuring that accurate medications reach patients efficiently and safely. Strong management capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to regulatory compliance are essential to success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Execute day-to-day operations in the pharmacy to meet workflow requirements, production quotas, and deadlines.
• Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
• Assist in maintaining strict compliance with all DEA policies and procedures, following whichever regulatory standard is more stringent.
• Ensure adherence to all third-party payer contract rules and regulations that govern the pharmacy.
• Supervise pharmacy production staff to support accurate order entry, efficient workflow, security of the pharmacy area, and adherence to delivery schedules.
• Review all new and refill prescriptions, labels, and orders for completeness and accuracy.
• Verify the content and accuracy of all drug packaging and labeling to ensure safe dispensing.
• Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of sterile IV drug products and solutions in accordance with established standards.
• Assist with the proper ordering, handling, receiving, documentation, and storage of all controlled substances.
• Help maintain a perpetual inventory for Schedule II controlled drugs.
• Provide evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as part of a scheduled on-call rotation and as required by management.
• Ensure the workflow dashboard is cleared daily to maintain efficient operations.
• Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Work overtime, holidays, and weekends when required and/or expected to support patient and operational needs.
• Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness and quality of pharmacy services.

Essential Skills

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
• Active Pharmacist License in the state of Massachusetts.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of pharmacy experience.
• Strong technical capacity in pharmacy practice, including dispensing, verification, and drug information.
• Ability to supervise and manage pharmacy production staff effectively.
• Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy in order entry, labeling, and dispensing.
• Sound decision-making skills to address clinical and operational issues.
• Ability to maintain discretion and protect confidential information in accordance with HIPAA.
• Reliable and consistent performance, meeting production quotas and deadlines.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
• Problem-solving and analysis skills to resolve issues related to workflow, inventory, and compliance.
• Capability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.

• Experience in long-term care (LTC), retail, or specialty pharmacy settings is preferred.
• Demonstrated collaboration skills and ability to work well within a team environment.
• Performance management skills to guide and support pharmacy staff.
• Strong reliability and teamwork, contributing positively to a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
• Comfort with managing controlled substances and maintaining accurate perpetual inventory records.
• Familiarity with third-party payer requirements and contract compliance.

Work Environment

This role is based in a dispensing pharmacy environment that supports multiple drug distribution systems and requires strict adherence to regulatory and safety standards. The schedule for this position is typically 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities. The work involves supervising production staff, working with sterile IV preparations, handling controlled substances, and using workflow dashboards and pharmacy systems to manage orders and inventory. Team members follow departmental policies related to safety, attendance, and dress code, and work in a setting where accuracy, confidentiality, and timely delivery of medications are critical.

This is a Contract position based out of Marlborough, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
