Job Title: Financial Counselor
Location: San Diego, CA (92123)
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: Evening (5x8 Hours)

Weekdays: 14:00 - 22:00
Saturday: 09:00 - 17:30
Sunday: 07:00 - 15:30
Note: Schedule may vary based on department needs and will be discussed at the time of hire.

Position Overview

The Financial Counseling team is dedicated to eliminating financial barriers to care, allowing families to focus on their child's treatment without added financial stress. Financial Counselors serve as key navigators of insurance and reimbursement resources, supporting families in understanding and managing healthcare costs.

Key Responsibilities

Assist uninsured and underinsured families in applying for government-sponsored healthcare programs such as Medi-Cal and California Children's Services (CCS)
Guide families through insurance processes, including authorizations and coverage verification
Support patients with payment plans and account resolution options
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Social Work, Case Management, Revenue Cycle, and Physician Billing
Provide clear financial guidance and counseling to patients and families

Reporting Structure

Works under the general supervision of the Lead Financial Counselor and Patient Access Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Financial Counselor in a healthcare setting
Strong understanding of Medi-Cal and insurance authorization processes
Excellent multitasking and organizational skills
