The assistant coach reports to and works closely with the Head Coach along with other assistant coaches and volunteers to determine goals and direction of the program. The assistant coach is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student athlete participating on their team for Ogden School District. All assistant coaches must complete coaching certification requirements as set by the UHSAA and the Ogden School District. Assistant Coaches must show competency in the following: Proven experience in teaching and modeling character and responsible behavior. Positive, high energy, and committed to the program. Partners well with parents, staff, community leaders, etc. View success not just as winning, but as helping team members to reach goals. Major Areas of Responsibility Coordinate the training, instruction, conditioning, and selection of athletes at all levels within the program. Follow and meet all expectations set forth by Ogden School District regarding the position of an assistant coach. Communicate with head coach regarding team questions and concerns. Develop and organize effective practices for athletes that teach skills needed to compete in our conference. Supervise athletes and teams assigned to him/her and assume supervisory control over all athletes in the program when such control is needed. Demonstrate and generate among staff and players an attitude of good sportsmanship and fair play. Adhere to the start and end dates of the season and rules pertaining to out of season coaching as determined by the UHSAA. Provide for the health, safety, and well-being of team members at practices, contests, and transportation to and from games. This includes oversight of the locker room if applicable. Promote a proper relationship with athletes and parents. Secure all doors, windows, locks, and check lights before leaving any area used. Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach. Help in planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs. Avoid criticizing, admonishing, or arguing with the head coach or any staff member in the presence of players and parents. Assist head coach with the distribution and collection of equipment on a timely basis, informing athletes of their responsibility for the use and return of athletic equipment/uniforms. It is the coach’s responsibility to collect all equipment/uniforms that has been issued. Assist in arranging for a postseason gathering and inform the Athletics Department of certificates needed. Complete a post season report with necessary information as stated by Athletics Director and head coach. Actively recruit at the Junior High School and High School level, the students within their boundaries. Maintain a positive image on the school’s athletic websites and social media. Keep the school’s athletics website current with rosters, schedules, and score updates. Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director. Education and Experience A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Coaching experience at a middle or high school level. Experience could also be extensive work with developmental programs. NFHS coaching certificate is preferred. Good basic knowledge of the sport is preferred. * If you are an hourly ESP with Ogden School District, this is considered a voluntary position for which you will receive a nominal fee.
