Job Summary As an Emergency Department team member at Corewell Health, you will provide top‑quality care under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will perform delegated patient care tasks and meet all established competencies, playing a vital role in impacting patients and their families. Essential Functions Perform routine bedside nursing activities, including ambulating, moving, turning patients, assisting with bedpans or urinary devices, and making patient beds. Perform higher‑level patient care tasks as prescribed, such as starting saline locks, simple suture removal (excluding complex lacerations), splinting, phlebotomy for children over age 2, vital sign measurement, and restraint application. Reinforce patient teaching plans by providing clarification, explanation, or demonstration regarding treatments, procedures, and aftercare. Apply and change sterile and non‑sterile dressings, apply ace bandages or elastic stockings, assist with catheterizations, give enemas, perform urine and stool testing, glucometer checks, and EKG functions. Gather subjective and objective patient data from direct observation, patient or significant‑other interviews, and the medical record. Document accurate, complete, and precise patient information in the medical record, and perform discharge functions under RN supervision. Perform technical skills such as collecting blood samples, obtaining vital signs, performing ECGs, setting up wound care, pelvic exams, and assisting with procedures directed by the nurse and physician. Utilize sterile technique. Communicate effectively with patients, significant others, and the healthcare team to support patient‑and‑family‑centered care. Stock and maintain adequate equipment and supplies in patient care areas; ensure vehicle and equipment readiness for response. Perform safe patient movement/transport, remove waste materials, sanitize tools, and deliver meals. Complete documentation and records per department policy. Maintain a high degree of professional conduct. Attend all required safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety. Follow hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and employees. Promote effective working relationships as part of a team to achieve departmental goals. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum six months of relevant experience as a nursing assistant or other inpatient caregiver, paramedic, EMT, urgent care caregiver, or nursing student with a completed medical‑surgical rotation. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC). Preferred Licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in Michigan.
