Histology Technician-Mohs Surgery Part Time Days

Salary Range $28.51 - $38.48 (Hourly Rate). Placement within the range is based on work experience, internal equity, and union rules if applicable. Schedule: Monday 7:30 am–4:00 pm, Tuesday 7:30 am–5:00 pm, Wednesday 7:30 am–4:00 pm. The Technician, Histology supports physicians and subspecialists by performing histology‑related laboratory tests to aid in diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and follow‑up of patients. The role acts as a liaison between physicians and staff, answering questions and providing educational assistance. Responsibilities Perform frozen tissue preparations for microscopic examination under the Mohs surgeon’s direction. Identify and orient tissue and use the Mohs frozen section technique to orient, map, freeze, cut, and stain sections. Recognize adequacy of cryo‑sectioning and label specimens appropriately. Operate automated instrumentation to stain microscopic slides, evaluate stains microscopically, identify and correct staining deficiencies, and perform manual methods during instrument downtimes. Document unacceptable staining, cover‑slipping results, or instrument failures, and maintain logbooks and electronic records. Maintain quality control and assurance documentation to assure CLIA compliance. Prioritize technical workload, respond to changes in workflow, and adjust work to incorporate STAT requests or volume fluctuations. Clean, disinfect, and document routine equipment and instrument use per SOP. Monitor laboratory inventory, notify coordinator of supply issues, and assist with inventory of clinical supplies. Assist in cleaning, wrapping, and sterilization of instruments and in clerical duties such as scanning records into EMR. Participate in safety and infection control activities, follow all required safety procedures, and assume a proactive role in laboratory safety. Take initiative for personal development by attending teleconferences, educational sessions, and required meetings. Show motivation, self‑reliance, initiative, and teamwork. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Zero to two years’ experience in a relevant role. Previous experience in molecular laboratories (e.g., in situ hybridization, polymerase chain reaction). Preferred Qualifications BS degree or higher in biological science. Associate Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. Education and training that includes 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including 24 hours of medical laboratory technology courses. 24 semester hours that include 6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and 12 hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination. HT(ASCP) American Society for Clinical Pathology Histotechnician certification or completion upon eligibility. Experience in immunohistochemistry and tissue processing.
