Faculty Positions: Implementation and Evaluation Scientists: Assessment of Innovative Cancer Interventions, Treatments, Survivorship, and Modes of Cancer Care Delivery

$117.5k - $367.5k
Full-time

Mayo Clinic

Responsibilities

These positions may be located in Rochester, MN, Jacksonville, FL or Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ.

Position Overview

Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCCC) - at each of its destination medical center sites in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; and Rochester, Minnesota - invite applications for open-rank faculty positions for Implementation and Evaluation Scientists. These positions are associated with leadership opportunities and a commitment to translating cancer research into clinical and community impact. Successful candidates will conduct research focused on assessment of the efficacy and impact of highly innovative, transformative cancer interventions, including cancer prevention and therapeutic interventions, new clinical trial designs, cancer survivorship, and highly innovative modes of cancer care delivery and clinical trials within and beyond our walls in patient home and community settings.

Mayo Clinic and MCCCC have built world-class research, clinical, and education and training programs to overcome and cure cancer using innovative research and therapeutic delivery platforms. These include Mayo Clinic Platform (MCP; - the world’s largest collaborative federated healthcare data network - holding the fully digitized longitudinal healthcare records from 15M Mayo Clinic patients and 54M patients from across the nation and the globe. Mayo Clinic Platform facilitates research by enabling development of longitudinal patient cohorts prior to and following disease diagnosis which can be used for discovery and interventional research and for innovative clinical trial designs, including synthetic emulation trials. In collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Artificial Intelligence (AI) Program, MCCCC has also developed very strong AI-driven discovery, translational, and clinical programs with exceptional “on premises” (NVIDIA Blackwell) and cloud-based computational resources. Cancer AI programs are focused on predictive modeling of virtual cells, tissues, and organs; digital twins; and AI-based multi-layered models for early cancer detection, interception, drug discovery, and guided interventions. In collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Research and Practice shields, MCCCC has also developed two highly innovative programs, including Cancer Care Beyond WallsTM (CCBW) and Clinical Trials Beyond WallsTM (CTBW). CCBW is focused on the development of platforms and tools to safely, expediently, and effectively deliver cancer care - often in the context of clinical trials - in patient homes and community settings, while CTBW is focused on the development of virtual and digital tools for the implementation of decentralized clinical trials in patient home and community settings.

In this context, Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center are seeking highly motivated investigators to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment embedded within Mayo Clinic’s integrated academic and clinical enterprise which includes real-world cancer care delivery and clinical trials in patient and community settings. Successful candidates will have strong research programs focused on implementing and evaluating evidence-based approaches to improve cancer treatment delivery, supportive care, survivorship, or related outcomes. Candidates will bring expertise in implementation science, pragmatic or hybrid study designs, hybrid effectiveness-implementation designs, mixed methods evaluation, and/or stakeholder-engaged research approaches. The role includes opportunities to generate real-world evidence that informs clinical and operational decision-making and supports the integration of evidence-based practices in one or more areas of cancer treatment delivery, supportive care, or survivorship, including work conducted in community, health system, and other real-world settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a focused program of research in cancer treatment delivery, symptom management, survivorship, or quality of life
  • Design and lead pragmatic trials, hybrid effectiveness-implementation studies, and real-world evaluations in one or more areas of treatment delivery, supportive care, and survivorship.
  • Develop and apply rigorous evaluation designs, including mixed-methods, quasi-experimental, pragmatic, and hybrid effectiveness-implementation approaches
  • Apply implementation science frameworks (e.g., CFIR, RE-AIM, PRISM) to guide study design, evaluation, and interpretation in real-world cancer care contexts.
  • Conduct late-stage translational research (T3–T4) that moves evidence into routine cancer care across diverse settings.
  • Partner with clinicians, scientists, health system leaders, and community stakeholders to co-develop and implement interventions to improve cancer care delivery and outcomes.
  • Advance cancer care through community-based, population-level, digitally enabled, or health system-integrated interventions.
  • Evaluate implementation outcomes (e.g., adoption, fidelity, sustainability, reach, cost) and assess the functional and financial impact of interventions on performance, workflow efficiency, resource utilization, and cancer care delivery outcomes.
  • Partner with operational leaders to align implementation strategies with payer and regulatory requirements, including Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) quality programs when applicable.
  • Generate evidence on the value, scalability, and return on investment of implementation strategies and cancer care interventions to support decision-making.
  • Contribute to development of team-based programmatic, multi-investigator grants and secure extramural funding (e.g., NIH, NCI, PCORI).
  • Mentor trainees and junior investigators in pragmatic trials, implementation science, and evaluation methods applied to cancer research.
  • Collaborate across Mayo Clinic sites and with external partners to scale impactful cancer care interventions.

Why Choose Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center?
With 440 members and >1500 aligned cancer physicians working in six Cancer Research Programs (Cancer Prevention, Survivorship & Control; Cancer Risk Assessment, Early Detection & Interception; Cancer Genomics, Signaling, & Metastasis; Cancer Immunology & Immunotherapeutics; Novel Therapeutics & Therapeutic Modalities; Advanced Clinical Trials and Translational Sciences) and 15 Disease Groups focused on clinical trials, MCCCC is a global leader and represents the pinnacle of cancer care, research and education and training. Every year, across its three enterprise sites (Rochester, Minnesota; Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona; and Jacksonville, Florida), MCCCC physicians provide expert cancer diagnosis and treatment to more than 150,000 unique patients from across the nation and the globe. MCCCC created one of the nation’s first National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center Research Programs focused on early cancer detection and interception: Cancer Risk Assessment, Early Detection, and Interception (REDI). The Center’s other five transdisciplinary research programs include Cancer Prevention, Control, and Survivorship; Cancer Genomics, Signaling, and Metastasis; Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapeutics; Novel Therapeutics and Therapeutic Modalities; and Advanced Clinical Trials and Translational Research.

The MCCCC Mission: To inspire hope and promote health and healing through integrated research, clinical practice, and education, centered around our primary value: the needs of the patient come first.

The MCCCC Vision: To be a global cancer authority: transforming cancer research and practice to assure that our discoveries, knowledge, and expertise are accessible to all, within and beyond our walls, at anyplace and anytime.

MCCCC Goals:

  1. To cure cancers through translation of innovative transdisciplinary science to new means of prevention, early detection, interception, intervention, and unparalleled care delivery.
  2. To transform cancer research and practice using category of one data platforms, digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and intelligent automation, creating new models for community and patient engagement, and the conduct of research, clinical trials and patient-centered care delivery in clinical, home, and community settings.
  3. To use Mayo Clinic Platform to engage patients and communities in our catchment areas and across the nation and the world in cancer research and distributed and decentralized clinical trials.
  4. To educate, train, and mentor the next generation of cancer physicians, scientists, and leaders.

Over the past year, MCCCC has continued to achieve exceptional performance metrics, with high levels of cancer research funding (reporting $61.2M in annual peer-reviewed funding ($41.1M from NCI) and $98.7M in industry and non-peer reviewed funding). The Center currently has over 80 multi-investigator programmatic grants including 6 NCI Specialized Programs of Research Emphasis (SPORES): Myeloma, Ovarian Cancer, Breast Cancer, Liver/Hepatobiliary Cancers, Prostate Cancer, and Sarcoma. In 2025, clinical trial accrual has remained robust, reporting the Center’s highest accrual to therapeutic interventional trials: 2,624 (12% of newly registered cases), with 6,588 interventional accruals (30% of newly registered patients) and 10,367 non-interventional accruals. In 2025, MCCCC members published an exceptional number (1776) of peer-reviewed academic works, 24% of which were published in high impact journals.
