About the Role
The Company is in search of a Managing Director and Deputy Chief Counsel for Patents and Trade Secrets. The successful candidate will be a seasoned intellectual property attorney with a focus on leading the enterprise's legal function in the areas of patents, trade secrets, and innovation protection. This role is pivotal in serving as the senior legal advisor for patent strategy, trade secret governance, and intellectual property matters, particularly those related to technology, AI, data, and proprietary capabilities. The Managing Director will be responsible for establishing and maintaining legal strategy, governance frameworks, and policies, as well as advising senior leaders on a wide range of IP considerations. Applicants must have a JD from an accredited U.S. law school, be a member of the bar in good standing, and have at least 12 years of experience in sophisticated patent, trade secret, and innovation-focused intellectual property law. The role requires deep expertise in advising on patent strategy, trade secret protection, and technology-driven IP matters, with experience in emerging technologies such as AI, data, and software. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of serving as a trusted advisor to senior executives, strong business judgment, and the ability to balance legal and business considerations. Experience in developing and implementing legal operating models, as well as managing outside counsel, is essential. The role demands excellent communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a strategic, collaborative approach with a strong ethical foundation. A technical undergraduate degree or equivalent technology experience is preferred, and prior in-house experience in IP program design is a plus.
