Job Description

The Material Handler supports daily shipping, receiving, and inventory operations in a clean, organized warehouse environment. This entry-level role focuses on accurate material handling, order picking and staging, inventory control, and safety compliance while using basic computer and data entry skills to maintain documentation and support plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Understand and support the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department, including inventory control, procedures, and FIFO (first in, first out) practices.
• Accurately select parts for production jobs using a pick sheet and ensure correct order picking and staging.
• Store incoming parts in designated warehouse locations and maintain organized inventory storage.
• Deliver packages and materials to other departments, including handling UPS and FedEx shipments.
• Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading trucks safely and efficiently.
• Operate pallet jacks, pick carts, and other material handling equipment as required.
• Audit job carts and participate in inventory audits and checks to verify counts and accuracy.
• Process returned items according to established procedures and document transactions in the system.
• Assist in packaging loads, including picking, packing, labeling, and preparing orders for shipment.
• Perform data entry and basic computer tasks to record inventory movements, shipping information, and other documentation.
• Use RF scanners and other warehouse technology to complete order picking and inventory tasks.
• Participate in the Lean Program (5S) by helping maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines at all times.
• Work independently while also collaborating effectively as a team player to meet production and shipping schedules.
• Maintain reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance to support ongoing operations.
• Handle general labor and general production tasks as needed to support plant and warehouse activities.

Essential Skills

• Experience or strong aptitude in material handling and warehouse operations.
• Ability to perform inventory management tasks, including counting, organizing, and tracking materials.
• Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, including handling UPS and FedEx shipments.
• Skill in order picking and staging using pick sheets and RF scanners.
• Commitment to safety compliance and following all safety policies and procedures.
• Basic computer and data entry skills, including the ability to work on a computer in English.
• Strong reliability, punctuality, and attendance to support consistent operations.
• Ability to follow company policies and procedures and work ethically and conscientiously.
• Capacity to work independently while also functioning effectively as a team player.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
• Ability to push carts and storage racks safely.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Manufacturing experience is beneficial for understanding plant operations.
• Prior warehouse or material handling experience is a plus.
• Experience using hand tools and power tools in a production or warehouse setting.
• Picking and packing experience, including labeling and packaging for shipment.
• Experience with shipping and receiving activities, including FedEx and UPS processes.
• Familiarity with stickering and computer documentation for inventory and shipping.
• Experience with forklift operation and general warehouse inventory tasks.
• Experience in general labor, general production, and loading/unloading activities.
• Experience using RF scanners for order picking and inventory management.
• Ability to be bi-lingual is a plus for communication in a diverse workplace.

Work Environment

The role follows a normal shift with a 4:00 a.m. start time, typically ranging from 8 to 12 hours per day, with some overtime on weekends as needed. The facility is a very clean environment, with work performed both at a workstation and within the warehouse. You must be able to use a touch screen and standard computer equipment to complete data entry and documentation. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel or composite toe shoes, safety vest, eye protection, and work gloves for various applications. You may experience minor temperature variations within the facility. Long pants are required as part of the dress code, and you will regularly use pallet jacks, pick carts, and other material handling tools to perform your duties.

This is a Contract position based out of Reading, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $18.00/hr.
