Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Experienced Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our veterinary team in Affton, MO. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in clinical procedures and patient care, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws and place IV catheters accurately and safely
- Prepare patients and surgical areas for procedures
- Monitor anesthesia during surgeries and assist the veterinarian throughout
- Assist the doctor in exam rooms during patient evaluations
- Support other RVTs and veterinary assistants as needed
- Occasionally fill in at the front desk, handling client check-ins and phone calls
- Perform cytology readings to assist in diagnosis
- Safely restrain animals, including aggressive patients, to ensure safety of all
- Calculate and prepare accurate medication doses
- Work collaboratively as part of a veterinary team
- Commit to working one late night per week until 7pm
- Clean and maintain exam rooms and kennels to ensure a sanitary environment
- Provide attentive care for hospitalized patients
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing education and support regarding their pets' health
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
- Proficient in blood draws, IV catheter placement, surgical prep, and anesthetic monitoring
- Strong skills in safe and aggressive animal restraint techniques
- Ability to read cytology slides
- Excellent communication and client education skills
- Ability to work well within a team environment
- Flexibility to work one late night shift per week (until 7pm)
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
