Como Especialista en Idiomas Extranjeros, asistirás al Defense Language Institute (DLI) donde aprenderás a hablar, escuchar y leer en tu idioma de destino. Durante tu estadía en el DLI, también estarás inmerso en la cultura de la región de tu idioma de destino. Al graduarte del entrenamiento lingüístico en DLI, serás elegible para obtener un título asociado en lengua extranjera. Los especialistas en lenguas extranjeras serán evaluados y acudirán al Advanced Individual Training 35M o 35P.

Requisitos:
- Ser ciudadano estadounidense
- Tener entre 17 y 42 años de edad
- Tener diploma de High School o GED
- Cumplir con las reglas sobre los tatuajes
- No tener infracciones legales graves
- No tener complicaciones médicas
Pruebas y Certificaciones:
- 10 semanas de Basic Training
- 85 o más de puntuación en el Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) (sólo Servicio Activo)
- 101 puntuación ASVAB: Skilled Technical (ST) * puedes evitar el DLAB con una puntuación ST de 129 o más
- 36 a 64 semanas de educación en el Defense Foreign Language Institute si el Soldado no domina un idioma extranjero
