We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a growing team in Richmond, Virginia in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing day-to-day accounting work with broader financial support, including budgeting, compliance, and reporting. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to accurate financial operations while partnering with leadership on fiscal planning and accountability.

Responsibilities:
• Maintain organized and current accounting records, ensuring financial data is accurate and aligned with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Support the development of annual financial plans by helping prepare budgets, monitoring spending activity, and assisting with revenue projections.
• Process payroll activities and help meet corporate tax and sales tax obligations, including timely filings and adherence to applicable laws.
• Prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger activity, and assist with month-end and periodic close processes.
• Coordinate grant-related financial administration by supporting applications, monitoring restricted funds, and producing required financial reports for funding sources.
• Strengthen accounting operations by applying internal control procedures that promote accuracy, visibility, and risk reduction.
• Create financial reporting packages for leadership, board stakeholders, and external partners to support informed decision-making.
• Assist with corporate tax return preparation and other compliance-related accounting tasks as needed.• Experience in staff accounting, general ledger maintenance, and preparation of journal entries.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return support.
• Ability to process payroll accurately while maintaining compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Experience contributing to budgeting, expense tracking, and financial forecasting activities.
• Familiarity with financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal control practices.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Proficiency in accounting systems and spreadsheet-based financial analysis.
