Facilities Technician

Overview Required : High School Diploma or GED plus one (1) year of experience related to the standard duties as outlined. Equivalency: Any combination of education, training, and/or experience as approved by Human Resources. Purpose and Scope: Under general supervision of the Director of Facilities the Facilities Technician will perform multi-craft functions for the college. Functions may include non-technical electrical, plumbing, grounds, carpentry, locksmith, custodial, and painting; provides day-to-day coordination, teamwork, and leadership to other employees performing similar work. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. Monitors, maintains, and performs standard repairs to buildings and grounds. Assists licensed electrician with non-technical repairs. Monitors performance of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems; performs standard repair and replacement of components. Performs non-technical maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units and adjustment of system controls. Performs non-technical maintenance of plumbing systems, including standard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, installing water coolers, and/or performing non-technical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems. Performs carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window, roof, cabinet, and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation, paint interior and exterior finishes, as appropriate. May perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks. Maintains the inventory of parts and supplies for facilities repairs; orders materials as needed. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Documents facilities maintenance requirements; maintains appropriate records of work performed. Performs snow removal, as required. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of one or more building trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, utility operations, building maintenance, and carpentry. Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to assist with repair and maintenance of heating and cooling equipment. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Records maintenance skills. Work Environment and Physical Demand: Use of computer and video display terminal for extended periods Manual dexterity and fine motor skills Ability to communicate information orally and in writing Ability to receive and interpret written and verbal instructions Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or reaching May require flexible scheduling to support infrastructure needs, emergencies, or system deployments Performing the essential functions of this position requires the use of a computer throughout most of the workday, the ability to navigate a typical office environment, significant amounts of interpersonal interaction including oral and written communication, and the ability to keep track of multiple tasks, projects, deadlines, information sources, and business processes.
