Housekeeping Supervisor

Under limited supervision, the Housekeeping Supervisor coordinates and oversees custodial staff, manages cleaning operations across assigned facilities, and ensures that college buildings meet established standards for cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness. The position supports the Facilities Services team by supervising personnel, coordinating work assignments, monitoring building conditions, and maintaining custodial supplies and equipment.

What You'll Do

• Supervises and coordinates daily work activities of custodial staff assigned to campus facilities.
• Assigns work schedules, monitors work performance, and ensures cleaning standards and service expectations are met.
• Provides training, guidance, and support to custodial employees on cleaning procedures, equipment use, and safety practices.
• Assists with onboarding and training of new custodial staff.
• Conducts regular inspections of campus buildings to ensure cleanliness, safety, and adherence to established custodial standards.
• Coordinates custodial response to facility needs such as spills, special events, and emergency cleaning requests.
• Performs custodial duties as needed to ensure adequate coverage and completion of essential tasks.
• Maintains inventory of custodial supplies, equipment, and materials; orders and distributes supplies to staff as needed.
• Oversees proper use, maintenance, and safe operation of custodial equipment including scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and other cleaning machinery.
• Ensures compliance with safety procedures and proper handling of cleaning chemicals and materials.
• Maintains records and documentation including building inspection reports, work orders, employee attendance records, supply logs, and other operational reports.
• Processes purchase requests, inspection reports, and other departmental documentation.
• Utilizes computerized systems such as work order systems, inventory tracking tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ensures custodial operations comply with applicable safety regulations, institutional policies, and environmental health standards.
• Maintains familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), regulatory guidelines, and custodial best practices.
• Participates in required safety training and continuing education.
• Works collaboratively with Facilities Services leadership, campus departments, contractors, and external vendors to coordinate custodial operations.
• Responds to inquiries and service requests from faculty, staff, students, and visitors regarding facility cleanliness and maintenance needs.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

• Five (5) or more years of experience in custodial or facilities operations
• At least three (3) years of demonstrated supervisory experience in custodial services, facilities operations, building services or related environments.
• Demonstrated knowledge of custodial safety practices, SDS requirements and cleaning standards for educational or large organizational facilities.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

• Five (5) or more years of custodial A minimum of 5 years of prior educational facility cleaning experience
• Experience using work order and inventory management systems

Additional Information

Work Environment: Position operates within both office and custodial settings and requires regular movement throughout campus facilities to supervise staff, conduct inspections, and ensure cleaning standards are maintained. May involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, moisture, noise from equipment, and varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Must adhere to all applicable safety procedures, environmental regulations, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines when working with custodial chemicals and equipment. Requires frequent interaction with facilities staff, faculty, administrators, students, vendors, and contractors. May require responding to urgent custodial needs, coordinating cleaning coverage, and maintaining service levels during campus events or peak operational periods.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent walking and standing while conducting building inspections and supervising staff.
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to inspect or assist with custodial work.
• Ability to lift, move, or carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to push or pull custodial carts, equipment, and supplies.
• Occasional climbing of ladders or step stools to access elevated areas.
• Manual dexterity to operate custodial tools, equipment, and computer systems.
• Ability to safely operate custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, wet/dry vacuums, and similar machinery

Normal Working Hours: Standard schedule, Monday – Friday; flexibility is required to support campus events, address staffing needs, respond to facility concerns and ensure custodial services are maintained during special activities and emergencies which may include needing to work early mornings, evenings or weekends. Require occasional on-call availability to respond to urgent custodial or facility-related issues.
