Manual MachinistUnder general supervision, the Manual Machinist will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.Duties and Responsibilities:Perform all duties below in alignment with Tri Tool's ImperativesStudies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of the finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.Measures, marks, and scribe's dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining, as necessary.Selects aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary.Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.Designs and produces fixtures for upcoming jobs.Performs routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.Skills:Strong math abilities, blueprint comprehension, and verbal/written communicationPossess reasoning and problem-solving skills, with emphasis on seeking solutionsAbility and desire to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment while meeting deadlinesMust maintain a neat and organized work area while maintaining safety and a high degree of accuracyStrong attention to detail with the ability to follow detailed instructionsAbility to exercise independent judgment and take initiative to accomplish directives with minimal supervisionContributes effectively as a collaborative team memberEffective, accurate, and professional verbal and written communicationDemonstrates strong social perceptiveness by recognizing others' reactions, understanding their underlying causes, and responding appropriatelyAbility to modify work and communication style based on tasks and individuals involvedAbility to effectively handle stress and pressure consistent with the job duties and industryRequirementsHigh School diploma OR GEDExperience or Technical Training related to ManufacturingFive or more years of work experience in as journeyman level manual machinistKnowledge of Cal OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulationsAbility to read and comprehend blueprintsExperience using measuring equipment
