Job Description We are hiring for a Behavioral Health Certified Peer Support Specialist at the Albemarle Behavioral Health Office. This is a regular, full‑time position with a flexible schedule. The specialist provides highly individualized community‑based services that promote self‑determination and decision‑making for individuals with mental health or substance abuse issues. The role includes advocacy, strength‑based interventions, and acting as a role model for recovery, symptom reduction, increased coping skills, and community integration. Program Responsibilities The Certified Peer Support Specialist offers expertise and consultation to the entire team, promoting a culture that respects each individual’s preferences. They assist individuals in regaining control over their recovery process and participate in treatment, rehabilitation, and community self‑help activities. Job Responsibilities Modeling effective coping and self‑help techniques to individuals. Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living. Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising on processes, and encouraging follow‑through with proposed resolutions, locating social activities, and providing other assistance as needed. Leading peer support groups with individuals served. Supporting and assisting individuals in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems. Facilitating social opportunities in the community. Fostering development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities. Sharing personal story of recovery and resilience to instill hope. Position Requirements Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in NC or PA. Preferred: 1 year of experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues. Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation. Pre‑employment Screening Complete criminal background check. Name checked in registries such as the OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. Drug testing. Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements. Proof of employment history or references, if required. Positions that require driving may need proof of driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle for providing transportation to individuals. Benefits Payactiv: early access to earned wages before payday.
