Social Worker

The Jewish Board's Youth and Family Division supports domestic violence survivors and their family members. Using a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach, staff guide the residents to create and meet personalized recovery goals, to stabilize their families, to develop independent living skills, and to plan effectively to be able to live in a healthy and secure manner. Our work is guided by principles that emphasize the critical importance of safe and stable housing, utilize a culturally competent and anti-racist lens, and respect the dignity and legitimacy of each individual's journey.

The Social Worker is responsible for supplying necessary counseling within the realm of the Domestic Violence programs. Social worker will complete necessary assessments, psychosocial assessments, referrals, run support groups and other tasks assigned. Social workers will provide necessary support to clients along their journey from emergency housing to permanent or transitional housing.

Key essential functions include: client engagement, carrying a caseload of residents, providing services to those residents within the scope of program regulations and agency mission, completing client assessments, evaluating and assessing clients functioning, supporting clients in meeting individual goals, practicing person-centered and collaborative service planning, interpreting and explaining agency policies and procedures, developing safety plans, providing individual and family counseling, making referrals and coordinating services, advocating on behalf of residents, linking residents to community-based programs, running groups under supervision, participating in audit preparation, and other duties as assigned.

Team process includes participating in weekly case conference, intake, assessment, discharge, and follow-up conferences, regular staff meetings and trainings, planning and execution of special and holiday events, and documentation of all resident interactions.

Core competencies for the position include in-depth understanding of mental illness, substance use disorders, or trauma, experience working with individuals living with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or trauma, knowledge of local and state health and human service systems, understanding of stabilization and recovery processes, commitment to working with individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, a history of trauma, and/or homelessness, compassion and respect for vulnerable individuals, openness to approaching the work through an anti-racist lens, ability to stay calm in stressful situations, patience and empathy for individuals on their journey to recovery, communication skills, self-sufficiency and initiative, interpersonal relations, problem-solving, quality assurance, teamwork, organizational skills, crisis management, good judgment.

Educational/training required: Masters degree in Social Work or similar degree, LMSW or LCSW preferred, a minimum of 1-year experience in Human Services preferred.

Additional qualifications needed: willingness to work with individuals with experiences of mental illness and substance use, compassion and respect for vulnerable individuals, patience and understanding for the sometimes-slow process of stabilization and recovery.

Computer skills required: familiarity with working in Windows environment, ability and willingness to learn new systems and application software.

Visual and manual dexterity: able to read data and documents, including spreadsheets, reports and Electronic Health Records in printed form and on computer screens, able to input data into relevant systems, limited applications of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Work environment/physical effort: travel in the community, ability to walk up flights of stairs, ability to lift 25lbs.
