SAMMY LEE ELEMENTARY MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCE MAGNET PRINCIPAL, ELEMENTARY The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) seeks an outstanding Elementary Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Dr. Sammy Lee Elementary Medical and Health Science Magnet towards academic excellence and success for all students. Dr. Sammy Lee MHSM Elementary School is part of the MacArthur Park Community of Schools. It is dedicated and committed to providing an educational program that is grounded in our medical and health science theme that supports hands‑on, inquiry‑based model of instruction. Dr. Sammy Lee serves approximately 600 students grade K-5 on a traditional calendar. Dr. Sammy Lee was recognized as a California Distinguished School in 2018 for demonstrating exemplary and quality educational programs and outstanding improvement and equity for all student groups. Student demographics include 56% Latino, 21% Asian, 5% African American, 5% Filipino, 26% English Learners, 8% Students with Disabilities and 93% Economically Disadvantaged. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: The principal will effectively collaborate with all stakeholder groups, be a great listener and strong instructional leader. The principal will have respect and empathy for all learners and support for each student group's achievement. The principal will create opportunities for building leadership capacity for all stakeholders. The ideal candidate has experience of providing professional development, preferably in all content areas. The principal will have experience with operational duties, knowledge of district, state, and national student assessments, knowledge of budgets, Magnet Program, Master Plan and knowledge and experience with parent, community and global engagement. SALARY: SALARY: 41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit. For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment). Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING): Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.
