Position: Medical Billing Specialist

Location: Northlake Behavioral Health System

Hours: Full Time, Non-Exempt

 

We are looking for an experienced healthcare billing professional who knows how to get claims paid. Northlake Behavioral Health System is a non-profit inpatient behavioral health hospital serving patients across Louisiana. This position focuses on insurance billing, claims follow-up, denial resolution, appeals, payment review, and accounts receivable.

Position Summary:

The Hospital Billing & Denials Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely insurance billing, claims follow up, denial resolution, payment review, and accounts receivable management. The position also supports insurance verification for new admissions and assists with patient account questions and financial arrangements.

Our payer mix is primarily Medicare and Medicaid, with limited commercial insurance. The ideal candidate understands healthcare billing and payer processes, is comfortable researching and resolving claim issues, and takes pride in getting the details right.

Essential Functions

· Submit and review insurance claims for Medicare and Medicaid payers
· Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on unpaid and outstanding claims
· Research, resolve, and appeal denied or underpaid claims
· Identify payment discrepancies and work with payers to resolve issues
· Review insurance payments for accuracy and contractual compliance
· Bill secondary insurance as needed
· Verify insurance coverage for new admissions
· Assist with patient financial arrangements and account inquiries
· Maintain accurate billing and account records
· Follow HIPAA requirements and payer guidelines
· Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

· 2-3 years healthcare medical billing experience required; hospital or behavioral health billing experience preferred
· Experience with insurance claims follow up, denials, appeals, or accounts receivable preferred
· Strong working knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing processes preferred
· Experience working with payer portals and insurance companies preferred
· Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve billing issues
· Ability to manage multiple accounts, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
· Strong communication, problem solving, and customer service skills
· Basic computer skills and ability to learn and navigate billing and payer systems
