Position Title: Facilities Operations Coordinator Location: Shaker Heights, OH Job Id: 237 # of Openings: 1 Department: Facilities Reports to: Director of Operations FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; 12 months Position Overview Hathaway Brown School seeks a skilled and proactive Facilities Technician & Operations Coordinator to support the daily operations, maintenance, and appearance of our 16‑acre campus. This position combines hands‑on maintenance responsibilities with operational coordination, vendor management, event support, and leadership coverage when needed. The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems, maintaining high standards, coordinating projects, and contributing to a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities Perform routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance on campus buildings, equipment, and grounds. Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building systems. Conduct daily campus inspections and identify maintenance and safety concerns. Assist with work orders, event setup and teardown, and campus operations. Maintain and operate facilities equipment, tools, and vehicles. Coordinate with contractors and vendors, including landscaping, snow removal, and specialty service providers. Order supplies, manage inventory, and assist with procurement of materials and services. Support athletic field and equipment setup and maintenance. Assist with seasonal campus projects, grounds maintenance, gardens, and special campus areas. Participate in the on‑call and weekend rotation schedule and manage the on‑call phone. Support emergency response efforts and help ensure compliance with safety regulations. Provide operational coverage and leadership support as needed. Occasional overtime is required. Qualifications Strong communication and active listening skills. Ability to read and follow instructions. Clean background check. Education High School Diploma or GED required. Technical training, or equivalent work experience preferred. Experience Facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related trade preferred. Physical Requirements This position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and use of hands and arms. Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Occasionally team lift up to 100 pounds. Ability to push/pull equipment and materials. Ability to work in varied indoor environments. Visual acuity (including depth perception and peripheral vision). Ability to hear equipment operation and verbal instructions. Ability to maintain balance and coordination. Ability to wear required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, etc.).
