CONTROLLER - NYC PRIVATE CREDIT INVESTMENT FIRM

Job Description J Harlan Group is searching for an experienced and highly motivated Controller - Investments to join a prominent NYC private credit investment manager. Reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer & SVP of Finance, the role supports senior investment management and drives financial operations in a fast‑growing organization. Key Responsibilities Manage a team of approximately 10 finance and operations professionals located in the United States and the Philippines (US hours). Oversee two third‑party fund administrators and in‑house legacy funds, reviewing fund accounting deliverables including valuations and financial statements during close periods. Review quarterly Net Asset Value calculations for third‑party administrators and legacy funds. Review quarterly unaudited and annual audited financial statements prepared by a third party. Prepare financials for special‑purpose vehicles with multi‑currency accounting. Review portfolio reconciliations for accuracy of asset‑level P&L attribution. Prepare quarterly and ad‑hoc return calculations and reporting metrics. Calculate quarterly tax distributions for funds and select upper tier entities. Coordinate with KPMG and tax counsel on tax compliance and structuring. Liaise with the in‑house operations team to resolve positions, P&L and operational issues. Support deal and asset‑management teams on ad‑hoc requests. Participate in technology build‑outs and refinements. Qualifications Minimum 10–15+ years of relevant financial experience. Desired experience and skills include: Private credit investments. Working with external service providers, especially fund administrators. Public/private fund accounting, closing, and reporting under US GAAP and investment‑company accounting. Strong written and verbal communication; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build professional relationships at all levels. Maturity, presence, sound judgment, and effective expression of opinions to cross‑divisional senior teams. Academic background: bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA preferred. Desired Attributes Analytical, detail‑oriented, and self‑driven. Strong communicator who excels at rapid synthesis. Business judgment, ability to digest complexity while keeping the big picture. Team player energized by collaboration. Compensation Salary range: $175,000–$225,000 plus annual discretionary incentive compensation.
