Director, Emergency Services Austin, TX – Full Time, Days (No Weekends) St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is a 460+ bed, multi‑specialty, acute care hospital that provides advanced women’s health services, minimally invasive gynecological surgery, comprehensive breast imaging, a 24‑hour emergency department, pediatric emergency care, intensive care, a Level IV Epilepsy Center, and other specialty services. Job Summary The Director of Emergency Services ensures high quality, patient‑centered care through oversight of the overall function and staffing of the unit(s) and department(s), forecasting, planning, and budget monitoring. The Director fosters a culture of accountability and collaboration and supports the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures in support of facility objectives. Major Responsibilities Quality Cultivate a superior clinical identity by identifying and implementing evidence‑based practices to advance patient safety and quality outcomes. Ensure adherence to standards of care and manage variation in clinical practice to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost. Maintain a culture of accountability and transparency in the provision of care. Stay abreast of internal/external benchmarks, accreditations, and designations; pursue efforts to achieve them. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards by developing and implementing policies, procedures, and practices. Oversee equipment maintenance to meet regulatory and/or accreditation standards. Optimize patient throughput and care delivery through volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning. Develop care‑coordination policies and procedures that promote improved quality, safety, and efficiency, and foster interdisciplinary communication. Direct nursing practice and unit operations, developing policies, procedures, and nursing standards to ensure patient and family needs are assessed, met, and evaluated. Service Lead efforts to attain and sustain an unparalleled patient experience, instilling accountability for consistent, positive interactions. Use feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and identify opportunities for improvement in customer/patient satisfaction. Execute a strategic roadmap designed to enhance patient experience and achieve optimal outcomes. Collaborate with subject‑matter experts and patient‑experience leaders to ensure evidence‑based practices are applied. Build a superior organization by attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining talent, ensuring people with the right skills and motivations are in the right role at the right time. Finance Participate in the annual budget process, contributing to revenue and expense forecasts, staffing, supply and equipment needs. Monitor budget performance, identify trends, evaluate variances, and implement actions to address gaps. Ensure effective labor management, maintaining staffing to meet patient‑care needs. Manage operating expenses and identify cost‑reduction opportunities to achieve savings. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in nursing – required. Master’s degree – preferred. 3+ years applicable experience – required. 5+ years applicable experience – preferred. Site Overview Main ER has 42 beds and sees 180 patients a day. Surgical hospital ER sees 3 patients a week. 4 field services emergency departments (FSEDs). FSEDs have two managers overseeing them. Level 4 trauma designation. 100 full‑time employees. Strong medical director partnership. Previous director was promoted to ACNO. Additional Notes Will need strong, current ED director experience.
