Job Description

The Support Technician performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of climate control rental equipment, including heaters, ground thaw units, air conditioning systems, and related machinery. This role is primarily shop-based with frequent onsite work to assist in equipment setup at customer job sites. The position combines hands-on mechanical and electrical work with customer-facing responsibilities, ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably throughout the rental lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on climate control rental equipment, including air compressors (diesel and gasoline), hydronic heaters, ground thaw equipment, air conditioners, concealed/indirect/direct fire heaters, electrical heaters, fans, HEPA air scrubbers, and dehumidifiers.
• Clean, inspect, and maintain rental equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation before and after each rental.
• Investigate and diagnose equipment faults and failures, identify root causes, and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
• Complete light repairs on rental fleet equipment and customer-owned equipment, following established procedures and safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, including work areas, wash bay, and yard.
• Perform day-to-day tasks such as pressure washing equipment, checking equipment for proper operation, servicing and maintaining components, conducting part lookups, and preparing repair estimates.
• Assist with field work by traveling to job sites to set up, start up, or adjust equipment as needed.
• Answer phone calls from customers with equipment on rent, provide basic troubleshooting support, and coordinate service needs.
• Process paperwork related to rental contracts, service work, and invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assist with loading and unloading rental equipment, ensuring safe handling and proper documentation.
• Perform simple maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on the rental fleet, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Respond to outside rental service calls as needed, providing onsite support and repair to minimize customer downtime.
• Complete light customer service repairs and communicate clearly with customers about work performed and equipment status.
• Understand customer needs and ensure those needs are met promptly, professionally, and with a focus on long-term relationships.
• Resolve rental-related concerns and disputes fairly and quickly to maintain strong customer relationships.
• Learn and maintain operating procedures for all rental equipment and clearly explain correct operating procedures to customers.
• Monitor product availability and equipment readiness, ensuring units are maintained and presented in a way that encourages rentals.
• Ensure the wash bay and yard remain neat, clean, and organized to support efficient operations and a safe workplace.
• Participate in on-the-job training and factory-specific training sessions to stay current with equipment technology and best practices.

Essential Skills

• 3–5 years of small engine knowledge and mechanical ability, including experience with maintenance and repair.
• Hands-on experience performing preventative maintenance on climate control equipment or similar mechanical systems.
• Working knowledge of electrical DC systems and control systems.
• Understanding of pneumatic control systems and components.
• Understanding of hydraulic control systems and their operation.
• Knowledge of mechanical control systems and basic mechanical assemblies.
• Experience with ignition and fuel systems on small engines and related equipment.
• Practical experience with small engine repairs and diesel engine starting and running issues.
• Familiarity with AC generators, air compressors, pumps (trash and water), and heating systems.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand tools and test equipment effectively, including a volt meter.
• Basic computer skills for documentation, part lookups, and processing rental and service paperwork.
• Ability to read and understand parts diagrams, schematics, and technical materials needed to diagnose and repair equipment.
• Ability to lift 50–75 pounds regularly or occasionally and perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, and reaching to complete repairs.
• Ability to work outdoors in both hot and cold weather when required for field calls or equipment setup.

Work Environment

The role is based primarily in a shop facility with regular field work to set up and service equipment at customer sites in a variety of weather conditions. You will work in a heated and ventilated shop for most tasks, but you will also spend time outdoors in both hot and cold environments when responding to field calls or setting up equipment. The local team is small, typically 3–6 people, fostering a close-knit, supportive atmosphere, while still benefiting from the resources and expertise of additional locations. Standard hours are generally Monday through Friday, either 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some variation by location and potential after-hours service calls depending on rotation. The company provides uniforms, contributing to a professional appearance and practical workwear suited to shop and field conditions. Technicians are not required to supply their own tools, although having personal tools is viewed positively as a sign of commitment to the trade; a volt meter is considered a fundamental tool for the role. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with expectations that the shop, wash bay, and yard remain neat, orderly, and well maintained.

This is a Permanent position based out of Mcfarland, WI.

The pay range for this position is $37440.00 - $54080.00/yr.

This is a fully onsite position in Mcfarland,WI.
