Staff Accountant

General Purpose This position entails supporting the financial analysis and accounting processing of our Energy and Corporate functional areas of the company. Key responsibilities involve posting cash receipts, reviewing and processing commission payouts, expense reporting management, and analysis on cash discrepancies along the way. Other duties include AP/AR processing and analysis, 1099 reporting, meter review analysis, producing sales commissions, ensuring consistency and accuracy. You’ll also support ad‑hoc incentive commission payouts, and compile and process tax filings payments. General Ledger Accounting & Financial Analysis Monitor accounts receivable and work on collection efforts Support Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processing and analysis Provide weekly AP listing for payment approval. Items not approved to be communicated for cash forecasting Review vendor invoices for appropriate documentation and adherence to company policies, paying particular attention to reasonableness Secure/verify approvals on all invoices, expense reports and check requests Troubleshoot any and all AP related discrepancies Analyze and post cash receipts from customer commission reports, and resolve errors from cash receipt postings Perform analysis on difference between posted and expected cash collections, and follow up with customers to determine what caused variances Communicate with internal and external sales partners to answer questions relating to commissions Produce sales commissions for internal sales representatives on both a monthly and quarterly basis, checking for accuracy and reasonableness compared to prior periods Prepare special project analyses as required Compile information for external auditors as requiredCharge expenses to appropriate accounts by analyzing invoices and expense reports, and recording entries, utilizing Navan and Bill.com Credit card transaction imports and reconciliations, utilizing Navan for further uploading into Sage Intacct Produce monthly expense reporting through Navan Assist with month-end accruals Manage tax filings for the Energy functional area, in addition to Corporate returns Support annual 1099 reporting and compliance requirements Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices Research and recommend programs, policies, and procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the accounts payable function, including internal controls and customer service Close commodity contracts in CRM, ensuring that terms are accurate Qualifications 4+ years of experience in staff accounting, general ledger accounting, or related field Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree Familiarity and competency with accounting software packages Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) Advanced communication skills, verbal & written Preferred Qualifications Experience as a key contributor of a team within a growing company Experience in the Retail Energy market Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Exceptional organizational skills Able to problem solve, prioritize, multi‑task, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment Work effectively with colleagues and Sales Partners by practicing respect for deadlines, collaborative problem solving and honest communication Build trusting relationships acting with integrity, courtesy and responsibility, even in the face of stress or demanding workplace conditions Flexibility to deal with the unexpected Detail oriented and accurate data entry and data analysis skills Display empathy and positive regard for others in written, verbal and non‑verbal communications Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner Salary $65,000 - $85,000 a year Benefits We offer a fantastic lineup of benefits, including Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, HSA, 401k Matching, Paid Vacation, Paid Sick, Paid Holidays, Paid Parental Leave, Paid Short Term & Long Term Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, and a flexible hybrid work schedule (for office‑based employees).
