About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Behavioral Health Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in geriatric psychiatric inpatient settings. Experience in medical long-term care or rehabilitation is strongly preferred. License: Valid state nursing license required. Certifications: BLS CPR Must-Have: Geriatric psychiatric inpatient unit experience. Experience with Foley catheter insertion and management. Experience in wound care and dressing changes. Must be comfortable with patients requiring extensive hands-on care, including incontinence care and assistance with mobility deficits. Description: The Registered Nurse will work in a locked unit. Involuntary patients are accepted in this setting. A seclusion room is available for use when necessary. The nurse will conduct safety checks every 15 minutes and perform one-on-one monitoring when appropriate. The unit is divided into two sections: a psychiatric unit and a behavioral unit. Patients will be placed in either section based on their level of cognitive ability and willingness to participate in group activities. Specialized equipment such as lift equipment is utilized, and training will be provided. IV therapy is also part of the care provided, with training available. Communication during shifts is facilitated through user-friendly phones. Panic alarms are installed on the unit for safety purposes. The average daily census on the unit is 25 patients. Ratios of staff to patients are typically 1 nurse to 6 patients during nights. The unit's primary patient diagnoses include unspecified psychosis, dementia with and without behavioral disturbances, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and any acute psychiatric illness alongside cognitive impairment. Weekend shifts are required every other week. Floating to provide assistance in adult behavioral health may be required.
