About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Behavioral Health Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Geriatric Psychiatry and Medical-Surgical experience preferred. License: Valid state nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, CPI required. Must-Have: Geriatric psychiatric inpatient unit experience. Experience with Foley catheter management and wound care. Comfortable with patients requiring hands-on care, including incontinence care and mobility assistance. Experience with IV fluids and medical psychiatric care. Description: The role requires a registered nurse specialized in behavioral health with a focus on geriatric psychiatric care. The nurse will work on a locked unit admitting involuntary patients, conducting safety checks, and providing one-on-one care when appropriate. They will be responsible for medication administration, wound care, and the use of lift equipment for patient mobility. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6 during night shifts, with an average daily census of 25 patients. Patients may present with a range of diagnoses including psychosis, dementia, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. The unit is divided into two sections based on patients’ cognitive ability and group participation. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential, including physical therapy and social services. The role involves using specialized equipment, including lift equipment and communication devices. Travelers are not considered for this position if they have previously worked for the organization. Candidates must meet the experience and skill requirements outlined and adhere to the floating requirement as necessary.
