About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Behavioral Health Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years in acute behavioral health License: Valid state nursing license required Certifications: BCLS, CPI or MAB Must-Have: - Previous charge experience preferred - Experience with Epic charting system - Float required to various units as needed - Every other weekend coverage required Description: The Psychiatry/Behavioral Health RN will work primarily in a locked psychiatric space within the Emergency Department. Patients in this unit receive evaluation, stabilization, and treatment for acute psychiatric crises. The nurse will provide individualized care to patients across various age groups, from adolescents to geriatrics. Staffing includes 2 RNs and 1 LNA/MHT, along with interdisciplinary support from various healthcare services. The nurse will monitor patient flow and assist with case management tasks, including obtaining insurance precertifications and managing referrals. The typical patient ratio is 1:6. The unit specifically caters to patients experiencing bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. Safety precautions are stringent, including controlled access to prevent elopement and the removal of dangerous items from the environment. Patients may need to wait for inpatient or emergency hospitalization for short periods, from 2 to 20 days, while receiving care. Continual evaluation of patients occurs every 24 hours, with psychiatrist rounds as needed. This position involves a commitment to providing high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. Nurses are expected to adhere to all safety and regulatory protocols to ensure patient well-being.
