Position Summary:

Payer Specialist has the task of compiling and tracking all outstanding bills which are owed to the organization. Position generates revenue by making payment arrangements, collecting accounts, monitoring and pursuing delinquent accounts.

Responsibilities:

· Collects delinquent accounts by establishing payment arrangements with patients, monitor payments and follow-up with payer when/if payment lapses occur.

· Maintains Medicare bad-debt cost report by tracking billings; monitoring collections; compiling information.

· Initiates claims against estates by monitoring deaths and unpaid accounts; informing legal department to act on probate and estate issues.

· Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures; reporting compliance issues.

· Protects company value by keeping collection information confidential.

· Adheres to professional standards, company policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and HIPAA and Compliance standards.

· Performs posting charges and completion of claims to payers in a timely fashion.

· Submits billing data to insurance providers.

· Works claims and claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services provided.

· Performs Medicare/Medi-Cal reviews and audits.

· Maintains all information pertaining to the patients billing that would include operation dates, the insurance policies, notes, etc.

Skills:

· Working knowledge of medical billing procedures with Medicare and Medicaid

· Working knowledge of the medical billing software Brightree preferred

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Office products

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment

· Able to multi-task and meet tight deadlines

· Excellent problem-solving skills

· Excellent organizational skills

Experience and Education:

· Minimum 3-5 years previous medical billing experience along with knowledge of billing related reporting

· Medical Billing certification preferred

· Minimum high school diploma. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business or related field a plus.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
