Scientist II

  JRS Pharma LP is seeking an experienced Scientist II to join our growing U.S. team in Patterson, NY as a key contributor to our Research & Development operations. This role plays a vital part in advancing innovative excipient solutions and supporting the development, evaluation, and optimization of products and applications that meet evolving customer and market needs.

The Scientist II is responsible for planning and executing laboratory studies, analyzing and interpreting technical data, developing and optimizing formulations and processes, and maintaining accurate scientific documentation in accordance with established quality and regulatory standards. Working collaboratively across R&D, Quality, Operations, Sales, and other technical functions, this position helps translate scientific insights into practical solutions for our customers and business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Scientist II position covers a broad range of duties, including research, new product development, writing detailed technical reports, maintaining the laboratories and supplies, and occasional customer interface.

The scientist is expected to be generally familiar with methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis, and the standard processing equipment used in dosage form production. In addition, the regular communication of their progress, both verbal and documentation of the details of their work is an essential part of their function. This includes daily electronic notebook entries, preparation of technical protocols and reports, and presentations for company meetings, internally, and with customers.

• Seek to better understand the needs and challenges of the industry by periodically reading trade journals, attending webinars, and at least one training course or workshop annually.
• Conduct experiments to assess and confirm the quality and functionality of JRS commercial products in support of our production facilities worldwide, and to develop new excipient products.
• Conduct functionality testing and evaluations of products in support of raw material and/or manufacturing changes. Summarize the results of testing with conclusions and possibly recommendations.
• Generate, review, and analyze formulation and process data. This includes experiment creation, documentation of experimental plans, execution of plans and trials, formal reporting and interpretation of data. Moderate emphasis on documentation.
• Test products and materials to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
• Prepare and review controlled documentation; experimental protocols and reports, validation protocols and reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
• Carry out product testing of samples submitted by customers to support sales as necessary.
• Provide guidance and support for interns as appropriate.
• Maintain a safe working environment and report any issues that may present a danger to personnel or the facility.
• Keep laboratory equipment and instruments in clean and good working order.
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies and order as needed.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

· Bachelor’s Degree in pharmaceutical technology, chemistry, science or related field. Master’s degree a plus.

· 5+ years’ experience in formulation and laboratory analysis.

· Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

· Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on accurate documentation and data interpretation. 

· Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical formulation and excipient applications a preferred.

· Excellent presentation skills

· Must work well in team environment

· Quality auditing or regulatory experience in pharmaceutical or food a plus.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 

· Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards

· Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
