Bridge Inspection Team Leader

Opportunity WSP is searching for a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, Lead Professional for the Bridge & Infrastructure Inspection Team in New York State with offices in Troy, Valhalla, and Goshen. Your Impact Perform bridge inspections for NYSDOT and other agencies in compliance with NBIS and AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges. Direct other field team members and enforce safe operations. Assist or create inspection reports and ensure technical compliance. Provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers and complete assignment‑specific training. Stay current with structural engineering techniques and practices. Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent. 7+ years of experience in bridge inspection and/or design. Professional Engineering certification. FHWA/NHI Training – (130055) Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges or current (130053) Bridge Inspection Refresher Training (within the past 5 years). Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles and application to project work. Demonstrated interest in structures, transportation or related field and strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects. Physically capable of continuous field work, including working at heights, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse conditions, and at night. Valid Motor Vehicle Record check and Driver’s License required. Competent interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non‑engineering audiences. Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team members. Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, tools. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. History of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety and other policies. Ability to work schedules beyond typical workweek and occasional travel, including overnight stays. Preferred Qualifications Additional FHWA/NHI Training – (130078) Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members, (130087) Inspection of Ancillary Highway Structures, (130110) Tunnel Safety Inspection. Familiarity with NYSDOT Bridge Inspection Standards and NYSDOT SMS software. Active membership in local professional practice organizations.
