CTR Group is seeking several Paint Prep-Sanders in Newport News, VA. Immediate openings and urgently hiring! CTR is seeking an experienced Paint Prep Technician to support the finishing department in a high-volume industrial manufacturing shop. This role focuses on preparing large machinery components for painting through sanding, masking, cleaning, and surface inspection. Ideal candidates come from manufacturing, fabrication, equipment assembly, or industrial coating environments.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform sanding, grinding, and surface preparation on steel and fabricated components
• Apply tape, masking materials, plugs, and protective coverings to prepare parts for paint
• Inspect surfaces for defects, imperfections, weld spatter, and contamination before coating
• Clean parts using solvents, degreasers, and shop-approved prep materials
• Work closely with painters and production leads to maintain workflow and quality standards
• Follow all shop safety procedures, including PPE use, material handling, and equipment operation
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and support continuous improvement efforts

Required Experience & Skills:

• 1+ year of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or equipment-repair shop
• Hands-on experience with sanding, masking, grinding, or paint prep
• Ability to read basic work instructions, follow prep specifications, and meet quality standards
• Comfortable working around large machinery, overhead cranes, and shop equipment
• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing clean, consistent prep work
