Job Summary The Maintenance Worker 1 position performs preventive and corrective maintenance in the plant under management supervision. Essential Duties / Responsibilities Completes preventive maintenance program independently as assigned. Assists other maintenance personnel on special fabrication or construction projects; may perform corrective maintenance on plant and equipment. Conducts daily greasing, oiling, and painting of plant equipment. Replaces equipment parts with little or no direction – gearbox rebuild, piping, replace packing, rebuild pumps. Uses cutting torch, welds mild steel with a stick welder, performs fabrication and hydraulic repairs. Rewires motors and performs basic electrical work. Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times. Uses assigned personal protective equipment and follows all company safety rules and regulations. Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings and may serve on the Safety Committee. Performs all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience operating a forklift. Preferred Qualifications Vocational school training preferred. Basic knowledge of general maintenance and equipment operations. General mechanical aptitude; basic 480‑electric skills. Good math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Working Conditions and Physical Demands This role may involve exposure to high noise levels, strong odors, heat and cold, biohazardous conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical hazards, and handling of dangerous equipment. Off‑site travel may be required. Physical demands include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, remain stationary, walk or move indoor and outdoor, use hands for handling, stoop, kneel, and crawl, and climb ladders as needed. Vision demands include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
