Teacher - Special Education

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Lightfoot Elementary as a Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students with diverse learning needs and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. This full-time position requires collaboration with fellow educators, parents, and specialists to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic and social growth for each student.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages active participation and supports diverse learning styles.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure effective communication and a cohesive approach to student learning.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting instructional strategies as needed to promote academic success.
- Provide direct instruction in academic and life skills, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, behavior, and progress towards IEP goals.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Advocate for students' needs and rights, ensuring access to appropriate resources and support services.
- Foster a safe and respectful classroom environment, promoting social-emotional learning and peer interactions.
- Engage with families through regular communication, meetings, and workshops to support student learning and development.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education or willing to obtain.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an elementary school setting.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing IEP documentation and student records.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance student learning.
