Job Description

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is a key member of the property leadership team and partners with the General Manager in driving the overall performance, operations, and resident experience of the property. The AGM provides leadership across property operations, resident relations, financial performance, leasing, and team coordination, while ensuring the asset is operated in accordance with Samuels & Associates' standards and all applicable laws and regulations.

The AGM serves as a primary point of contact for residents, retail tenants, investor-unit owners, vendors, and operational partners, and is expected to proactively identify opportunities, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement across the property.

Roles & Responsibilities 

• Partner with the General Manager in the leadership and day-to-day operation of the property, establishing priorities and ensuring consistent execution across all areas of the asset.

• Champion an exceptional resident experience, overseeing move-ins, move-outs, work orders, renewals, resident communications, concerns, and resident engagement.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, investor-unit owners, retail tenants, vendors, and operating partners, serving as a trusted and responsive representative of the property.

• Lead coordination across Service, Leasing, Accounting, vendors, and corporate teams to ensure efficient operations and a consistently high level of service.

• Proactively identify operational challenges and opportunities for improvement and work with the General Manager and appropriate teams to implement solutions.

• Oversee property projects, construction activity, maintenance issues, inspections, and other initiatives that impact the resident or customer experience.

• Maintain effective operating procedures, property records, communication platforms, and reporting systems while ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.

• Take an active role in property financial performance, including accounts receivable, collections, resident ledgers, billbacks, reimbursements, expense management, and monthly financial reviews.

• Partner with the General Manager on budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and initiatives designed to improve operational and financial performance.

• Manage the residential renewal process in partnership with Leasing, balancing resident retention, market conditions, and revenue objectives.

• Support the General Manager in recruiting, developing, and retaining a high-performing property team while fostering a culture of accountability, service, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

• Lead and participate in property meetings and initiatives, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and timely follow-through on priorities.

Qualifications & Skills

• College degree preferred in real estate, business, hospitality, or a related field.

• Strong residential property management and leasing experience; Class A multifamily or mixed-use experience preferred.

• Demonstrated leadership ability with strong communication, organizational, relationship-management, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong understanding of property operations, leasing, resident relations, financial management, and asset performance.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment, take ownership, manage competing priorities, and proactively drive results.

• Experience with Yardi, MRI, YieldStar, LevelOne, or similar property management systems preferred.

• Ability to interpret and communicate detailed written and verbal information effectively.

• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 15 pounds as required for property operations.
