Position Summary The Accounting Specialist provides financial and administrative support including processing and reconciliation of cash receipts between systems, preparation of journal entries, updating supporting schedules relating to grants, programs, or other donor related activity. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:ResponsibilitiesImport cash receipt transactions weekly into the accounting system from the donor database.Reconcile cash receipts financial information between the accounting system, donor database, and the operating bank account.Assist in the preparation of the monthly bank account reconciliations.Prepare adjusting journal entries as directed.Prepare a variety of complex and recurring accounting-related reports, summaries, and reconciliations.Assist and backup the Accounts Payable process. Maintain Vendor records.Assist in the preparation of schedules to support grants, programs, and other donor related activity.Assist in the reconciliation and maintenance of schedules for various general ledger accounts.Assist with fixed asset inventory and recordkeeping.Assist and backup the deposit and petty cash processes.Assist with Annual Budget and Annual Audit and other projects within the department.Maintain compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and tax laws.Assist, as assigned by management, with the organization's disaster response efforts.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)Associate 's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred2+ years progressive accounting/bookkeeping experience in public accounting or similar work environmentKnowledge of not-for-profit accounting MIP software preferredStrong computer aptitude, which includes expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word as well as experience with accounting software and general ledgersStrong organization, oral and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlinesAbility to promote excellent performance in self and othersAbility to solve problems independently, effectively, and creativelyDemonstrated attention to details and ability to work in a fast paced environmentAbility to conduct research, study and synthesize data, and establish prioritiesFlexibility and ability to work on multiple high-priority projectsDemonstrated outstanding accounting skillsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.
