Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive healthcare services under the supervision and collaboration of a licensed physician. The PA is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; developing treatment plans; prescribing medications as permitted by state law; and promoting preventive healthcare initiatives. The Physician Assistant works closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in various clinical settings.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Obtain and document complete patient medical histories and perform physical examinations.
• Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic medical conditions within the scope of practice.
• Develop, implement, and monitor patient treatment plans.
• Order, perform, and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and other diagnostic procedures.
• Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies.
• Perform clinical procedures as delegated and approved by supervising physicians.
• Provide health education and counseling to patients and families regarding disease prevention, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
• Assist in surgical procedures and provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care, when applicable.
• Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and ancillary services as necessary.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and compliance initiatives.
• Stay current with evidence-based practices, medical advancements, and continuing education requirements.
• Respond to urgent and emergency medical situations as required.

Required Skills/Abilities

Education /Experience

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
• Current and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the applicable state required.
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration, if required for practice.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred, depending on specialty.
• One (1) or more years of clinical experience preferred; new graduates may be considered based on organizational needs.
• Specialty-specific experience may be required for certain practice areas.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting during patient care activities.
• Ability to move throughout clinical, hospital, and office environments.
• Ability to perform physical examinations and clinical procedures requiring manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
• Ability to lift, transfer, or assist patients in accordance with safe patient handling procedures.
• Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, as required.
• Ability to respond promptly and effectively during emergency situations.
• Ability to tolerate exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and other healthcare-related hazards while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
