Registered Nurse - Observation Unit

Job Description

The Observation Unit is dedicated to the care of adult patients requiring additional observation to determine whether their conditions necessitate hospital admission or if they can be safely treated and released. As a fast-paced environment, the unit experiences a turnover of 20 to 27 patients per day, with an average length of stay of 27 hours. The unit is staffed with 24/7 provider coverage and caters to a diverse adult population, managing both emergency observation and admitted boarding patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for adult patients in the Observation Unit.
• Monitor patient conditions and determine the necessity for admission or discharge.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate with healthcare providers effectively.
• Adhere to hospital protocols and standards of care.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Active RN License in New York (NY License ONLY)
• Minimum of two years of Med/Surg nursing experience
• Telemetry experience required
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association only
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association only
• NIHSS certification required

Schedule

This position involves rotating shift schedules, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call duties as needed.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.
